The Open Door Internship Program is a one-semester program created to provide opportunities for professionals from historically underrepresented communities to explore teaching at the college level. Once accepted into the program, individuals will receive their own class, full adjunct pay, and an experienced mentor to help guide their first semester teaching. GENERAL FUNCTIONS

Under the close supervision and guidance of their Academic Director, teaches one class in the area of their expertise. Specific functions may include course development, lesson planning, teaching and lecturing, and activity, assessment, and course material development. They receive mentorship in working in a higher education environment. This is a one-semester, fixed-term position with no guarantee of employment at its conclusion.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

Participate in course and assessment activities.

Prepare and provide a syllabus for the course that complies with GCC Procedures.

Prepare and provide lessons that achieve the stated learning outcomes for the course.

Provide timely feedback to students on assignments including homework, quizzes, tests, etc.

Submit census report on student attendance when requested and by the deadline provided.

Submit final grades for students when requested and by the deadline provided.

Perform other duties as assigned related to managing a course as an adjunct faculty member.

Attend all scheduled classes or make prior arrangements with the Academic Director or Dean.

Serve as a positive role model and provide educational and professional advisement to students.

Learn about college policies and guidelines as they pertain to Adjunct Instructor positions.

Job Requirements:

Background

Must be a member of a historically underrepresented population.

Education

Master's Degree in the subject area or a Master's Degree in a related area required.

Special Skills

The ideal candidate displays a strong interest in higher education and possesses great knowledge of their academic area. They must interact and communicate effectively (verbally and in writing) with students and colleagues and possess a willingness to embrace technology. This person must be a friendly, enthusiastic team player with a strong work ethic and demonstrate a commitment to diversity and to the practice of student development theory.

Additional Information:

This is a part-time adjunct instructor position teaching face-to-face in the classroom at the Batavia Campus and/or its campus centers (Albion, Arcade, Dansville, Lima, Medina, and Warsaw).
