Polk County Tax Collector Mail Support Specialist II 18.38/hr in Bartow, Florida

Position Summary :

Sort and open all incoming mail manually or using the Opex machines and prepare payments for processing. Prepare incoming and outgoing mail for distribution. Accept shipments and deliveries received at the warehouse and distribute. Assist with clerical duties in Technical Processing and other departments. Pick up mail from the different post offices as well as the drop box locations.  Sort, open, and distribute mail to appropriate personnel. Pick up or deliver documents and supplies between service centers, utility offices, banks, vendors, or other offices. Maintain the Courier vehicle and warehouse as required. There may be other job duties as deemed necessary.

The most essential skill is attitude and includes the following: positive interaction and cooperation with co-workers, responding politely to customers, working as a team member, function under intense time pressure and responding in a positive manner to supervision.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Note: May perform other related duties and task, as required.

 

  • Pick up mail from the different post offices and drop box locations, sort, open, and distribute mail to appropriate personnel.

  • Transport documents and supplies between the service center offices, utility offices, and banks.

  • Deliver or pick-up documents/supplies from other government offices and vendors.

  • Keep supplies in the warehouse in a neat and orderly fashion and assist with inventory control.

  • Submit mileage and fuel information via email

  • Sort, open, and distribute incoming mail to the different departments.

      

  • Open and prepare payments for processing.

  • Operate mail opener, scanner, inserter, and postage meter.

  • Enter measurements daily.

  • Review all returned mail for missed payments and opportunities to repurpose materials.

  • Use mail inserting machine or manual methods to prepare envelopes for mailing.

  • Keep machinery clean and clear jams, when needed.

  • Assist with:

  • Warehouse deliveries and pick ups

  • Preparation of dirty tags for shipment

  • Verifying tag shipments and supplies

  • Disposal or recycling of dated materials

  • Various projects for different departments

  • Additional courier duties as needed

     

    Job Requirements and Qualifications:

    Education and Experience Requirements:

    Requires a high school diploma or general education degree (GED). 

    Certifications, Licenses, Registrations:

    Florida driver’s license and a Board of County Commissioner’s defensive driving certificate.

    Skills and Knowledge:

  • Read and interpret correspondence.

  • Effectively communicate procedures, regulations, and instructions in a written and oral format.

  • Basic mathematical skills.

  • Working knowledge of Outlook.

  • Must display a positive and helpful attitude.

  • Must be highly dependable.

  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions verbally or in writing

    Working Conditions:

    Work in a climate-controlled environment and in moderate outdoor weather conditions. Occasionally there is exposure to moving mechanical parts and moderate noise levels.      

    Physical Demands:

  • Lift more than 60 pounds

  • Stand, squat, stoop, kneel, crouch, or walk

  • Sit for long periods

  • Manual dexterity
