Summary:

The Surgical Weight Loss Program Coordinator oversees the clinical operations of the Surgical Weight Loss Program at Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center. Includes maintenance of program accreditation and coordination of patient care through the program. Assist with development and tracking of yearly QI project, maintenance of data collection for ACS certification. In addition, this role drives all program enhancements and initiatives.

Responsibilities:

  • Review, revise and develop clinical guidelines concerning all types of bariatric procedures and disseminated policies and protocols to the clinical staff in preoperative evaluation, the OR and other patient care areas.

  • Work with Medical Director to coordinate patient care protocols.

  • Patient navigation and coordination of 200-250 bariatric procedures performed annually including laparoscopic, robotically assisted gastric bypass, sleeve gastrectomy, adjustable banding and revision of prior weight loss procedures.

  • Responsible for directing the operation, marketing, customer experience, and clinical outcomes for the programs.

  • Participates in Process and Quality Improvement initiatives to positively affect patient outcomes; ensures compliance with regulatory requirements, patient safety, and quality initiatives to achieve optimal clinical and organizational outcomes.

  • Coordinate a multidisciplinary team for the program as set forth by the accreditation.

  • Facilitate interdisciplinary collaboration, development, review and implementation of patient care protocols, clinical pathways and patient policies and procedures for care of bariatric surgery patients.

  • Facilitate weight loss surgery support groups and information sessions and development and maintenance of online information session and online support group.

  • Assess third party payer acquiescence. Complete yearly application for third party payers to maintain designation as a bariatric preferred provider.

  • Maintain bariatric accreditation as a Bariatric Surgery Center with the American College of Surgeons/MBSAQIP

  • Coordinates and facilitates the preparation and execution of the tri-annual ASC re-accreditation application and facility site visit. This includes but is not limited to; preparing application which includes program information, updates, volume reports, etc., coordinating with OR, admitting, hospital, department and inpatient personnel to obtain data as well as plan the physical site visit schedule, acting as direct contact to ACS for coordination of application and site visit details, coordinate physical site visit by planning for meeting space, schedule location visits, meetings with faculty and staff, chart review and act as the resource to the site reviewer

  • Coordinating program staffing schedules; Dietitian sessions (individual consultations, group support and nutrition classes), program information sessions, etc.

  • Evaluates outreach opportunities for program advancement, including participation in national seminars.

  • Presentations on bariatric programs to local community and at ASMBS Obesity Week

  • Performs additional duties as assigned.
