University of Maine System Center Director, Small Business Development Center - Central and Northern Maine in Bangor, Maine

The Maine SBDC (https://usm.maine.edu/maine-small-business-development-centers/) at the University of Southern Maine (http://usm.maine.edu) is seeking a Center Director to lead the charge in empowering entrepreneurs and small business owners in Central and Northern Maine. Maine SBDC helps build and strengthen small businesses through no-cost business advising, training, and educational resources.

The Center Director for the Maine Small Business Development Center (https://drive.google.com/file/d/1OO2QKyrmcLCxS5YF-a_qGuOra0OnVNcm/view?usp=drive_link) has responsibility for development and supervision of a Maine SBDC business advising center serving Central and Northern Maine. The position manages the Center’s business advising staff. In addition, the Center Director contributes to the Center’s success by providing high quality business advising to entrepreneurs and small business owners.

This is a full-time position with an annual salary of $83,000. This position will primarily work in Bangor, Maine but will be expected to travel and provide business advising to the Ellsworth and Belfast regions. This position works on a hybrid schedule with approximately two in-office days per week (subject to change). Additional in-person and travel time may be required for events or the management of the Center.

Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in Business or related field or equivalent experience.

  • Minimum of seven years broad business management experience including small business operations and senior business-related management experience including financial management, personnel development, market research and planning, accounting, and profit and loss accountability.

  • Strong supervisory ability and experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous SBDC experience, or experience with similar small business advising organization

  • Owned and operated a small business

  • Experience with public-private programs and economic development activities.

  • Experience in adult education.

License/Certifications:

  • Ability to provide own transportation (fully-insured vehicle), provide proof of a valid driver’s license, and compliance with Maine law regarding vehicle insurance.
