The Alexa Connect Kit Team is seeking a Support Engineer to support IoT Device Makers. As a support engineer you understand the business impact of support decisions. You drive the team to improve operational efficiency for all services through the identification and development of SLAs, metrics, monitors, procedures, tools, and documentation. You think proactively and work to prevent support issues before they are realized. You participate in design reviews to identify and mitigate support risks. You work closely with development and QA teams to improve the change management life-cycle. You have a deep understanding of production architecture and are familiar with operating system best practices. You identify and drive small production architecture changes.

The Alexa Connect Kit team is a team within Alexa Smart Home. We offer managed services (cloud services, firmware, devices) for enabling device makers to build smart home appliances. We work across verticals that Alexa Smart Home supports, partnering with manufacturers to bring to market everything from Christmas trees, coffee makers to light switches and air purifiers. We get to help out big grand partners such as Toshiba, Sharp, Hamilton Beach and more realize their product vision at what they do best, whilst we bring best in class Alexa and Smart Home features into their products in an easy to integrate manner.

Key job responsibilities

As a member of the Alexa Connect Kit team, you will be responsible for delivering tools and services to simplify the process for device makers to seamlessly manufacture IoT enabled devices. You will design and own solutions to simplify internal team processes, launch readiness operations, and productions launches.

The ideal teammate is passionate about Alexa and has a track record of success in delivering new features and products. A commitment to teamwork, knowledge of IoT systems, strong CS fundamentals, experience developing new systems, and strong communication skills (to both business and technical partners) are absolute requirements.

Basic Qualifications

  • 4+ years of software development, or 4+ years of technical support experience

  • Experience scripting in modern program languages

  • Experience troubleshooting and debugging technical systems

  • Experience in agile/scrum or related collaborative workflow

  • Experience troubleshooting and documenting findings

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of distributed applications/enterprise applications

  • Knowledge of UNIX/Linux operating system

  • Experience analyzing and troubleshooting RESTful web API calls
