Key job responsibilities

As a Software Development Engineer, you will own adding capabilities as we unlock more features on Kindle E-reader family. Our goal is to make it fast, easy and low-cost for our internal application developers to build features and release them on our E-reader.

You will tackle challenging, novel situations every day and given the size of this initiative, you’ll have the opportunity to work with multiple technical teams across Amazon.

You should be comfortable with a level of depth that you need to dive into as we solve deep operating system level problems! We will need to tackle problems that span a variety of domains: software, hardware as well as automation.

You design and develop the critical components in the operating system as well as low-level components in E-reader that make the product a performant, secure and power optimized device. You also write applications on top of our unique Kindle Operating system.

• You are proficient in C/C++ to understand internals of operating system in E-reader. If you know React Native, it will be a bonus as you can also write applications in E-reader.

• Collaborate with experienced Amazonians to conceive, design, and bring innovative components in E-reader

• Architect and design a secure software that protects customer data stored on the devices.

• Identify what it means to keep the software stack up-to-date keeping an eye on advancements both in hardware as well as software.

A day in the life

In this role, you will be actively engaged in developing and writing applications that are based on C/C++ and React native. You will be contacted by many Amazonians as they deploy their software on E-reader. You will also be a lead engineer guiding junior members in this role.

Basic Qualifications

  • 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience

  • 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience

  • Experience programming with at least one software programming language

  • Experience in c/c+Preferred Qualifications

  • 3+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent
