Microsoft Silicon and Cloud Hardware Infrastructure Engineering (SCHIE) is the team behind Microsoft’s expanding Cloud Infrastructure and responsible for powering Microsoft’s “Intelligent Cloud” mission. SCHIE delivers the core infrastructure and foundational technologies for Microsoft's over 200 online businesses including AI, Bing, MSN, Office 365, Xbox Live, Skype, OneDrive and the Microsoft Azure platform globally with our server and data center infrastructure, security and compliance, operations, globalization, and manageability solutions.

In partnership with the Azure Service teams, we are on a mission to deliver the hardware, software, services, and infrastructure roadmap that enables users to run technical computing workloads on Azure. Our focus is on smart growth, high efficiency, and delivering a trusted experience to customers and partners worldwide  The SCHIE HW Diagnostic Engineering team plays a critical role in designing and developing diagnostic software solutions for Server and Rack Infrastructure components that are deployed for Microsoft's online services. We work closely with Microsoft product groups, industry partners and researchers to architect and develop server diagnostics solutions to support diagnostics and servicing of the hardware that supports our cloud services platforms.

We are seeking a highly motivated Software Diagnostic Engineer who has a good understanding of Server and Infrastructure Hardware and their cooling components that are deployed in our Cloud Data Centers and who has a strong desire to learn, contribute and grow in the fastest and biggest growing segment of the industry today.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for testing and validating HW diagnostic modules for servers and infrastructure components that are deployed in Microsoft Cloud Data Centers. Responsibilities include developing SW and test automation scripts to support validations.

  • The code development for test automation will be in C, C++ as well as in PowerShell, C#, Python or Pearl in Windows Server 2012/16/19 environment or BASH in Linux environment.

  • Responsibilities also include collaborating across teams within Microsoft, Server ODMs, OEMs and component vendors to test and validate their tools that are integrated into the diagnostic work flows for detection, mitigation and correction of hardware faults.

Qualifications

Job qualifications:

  • 5+ of hands-on coding and scripting experience (SDET) required (C/C++/C# in Windows Server 2012/16/19 or Linux)

  • 3+ years of hands-on experience in solving hardware and software problems in PC, Enterprise server or Cloud Server required (X86 environment).

  • Strong grasp of key technologies such as CPU, motherboards, BIOS, BMC, memory, PCIe, storage, and networking is required.

  • Hands-on experience in developing test automation as well as skills to work in a laboratory environment is a plus.

  • Passion for remote problem solving in cloud environment is essential.

  • Individual effectiveness skills such as discipline, time management, decision making, planning, organizing work, and summarizing results through technical reports are required.

  • Self-motivated individual must be able work independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment.

  • Must be able to plan work and work to a plan, adapting as necessary in a rapidly evolving Environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Hands on experience in developing Diagnostic Code as well as skills to work in a laboratory environment is a plus.

  • In-depth knowledge of hardware, software, and cloud technologies

  • Experience with cloud-scale architecture and infrastructure

  • Track record in working with Silicon vendors (CPU, SoC, FPGA, GPU, etc.) and ODMs
