Online advertising is what allows us to enjoy many online services for free, such as search engines, social networks, or music and video streaming platforms. It is also a growing business, as online time increases for more people, and more advertisers want to reach them. The field of computational advertising combines information retrieval, data mining, machine learning, statistical modeling, optimization, linear algebra, and micro-economics, to tackle multitude of problems that can arise and to run the operations optimally.

We are a team that focuses on monitoring and protecting the health of the Microsoft Online Advertising Marketplace. We use big data from different sources, such as advertisers, publishers, system components and users, to find the connections between different anomalies and conduct investigations, diagnoses, and resolutions of issues that may impact the marketplace, as well as try to discover areas of opportunity in the marketplace.

You should be independent, curious, and have an attitude of can learn and can get it done. You need to be open (and potentially familiar) to service and business operations responsibilities, and able to perform data analysis at different scales, be open to / interested in quick coding to get analysis done or automate fixed processes. Given open ended business or analysis or introductory data science problems, you should be able to think structurally and form hypothesis / strategies in a reasonable manner. Having the ability to undertake precise communication with different types of audiences is a plus. The team is based out of Bangalore, but you may work from different locations in India, as per current flexible work policy of Microsoft.

Responsibilities

Core Responsibilities

Marketplace Operations:

  1. Own Bing ads market monitoring and investigations.

  2. Run analysis to explain behaviour of marketplace key performance indicators.

  3. Strong communication skills and ability to modify presentation as per audience.

  4. Ability to independently drive high visibility issues affecting Bing. Will need to demonstrate strong ownership and time flexibility during outages.

  5. You will be part of a 12/7 on-call rotation (once every 8-10 weeks) where you will be the person on point to monitor the health of the Bing Ads marketplace and respond to perceived issues.

Open ended analysis:

Analysis of problems from marketplace products or various parts of marketplace operations in collaboration with the product or development team.

This includes but is not limited to identifying key KPI’s and their tracking, dashboarding, Insight generation, performance analysis of key drivers.

Running exploratory analysis to prove / disprove data hypothesis.

Automation and Engineering:

Inclination to explore mechanisms to automate analysis steps, undertake engineering orchestration, which may or may not require ability to do quick coding and or learning aspects of engineering infrastructure, as also exploring Machine Learning Solutions / Approaches

Qualifications

Qualification

  • 2-3 years of relevant experience is expected but for exceptional people experience is not a bar.

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a STEM or Business-related field with strong emphasis on data analytics; again we are open to being flexible for exceptional people.

  • Knowledge of SQL or something similar, is important.

  • Knowledge of Python and / or R in general coding as well as in data analysis has high weightage.

  • Knowledge of basic and / or advanced statistical methods / knowledge of machine learning disciplines is a plus.

  • Good verbal and written communication skills

  • Technical competence & strong analytical skills

  • Having worked in a web search related company is a plus.
