Director Engineering, AI Engineering: R&D Centre Bangalore (RCB)

Description:

HP's R&D Centre Bangalore (RCB) has over 2000 headcount, including full time equivalents and contingent workers, in the areas of Embedded Systems, Cloud Systems, Client & Application S/W, Manageability S/W, Security, Data Engineering & Analytics, Generative AI & Machine Learning, Systems Integration and Quality Engineering. RCB's scope of work covers lifecycle and ecosystem engineering activities in the above areas for HP's global business units across products, platforms, solutions & services. RCB supports the enablement of billions of dollars of HP's business. RCB is also one of HP's largest R&D footprints in one of the fastest growing emerging market economies with significant strategic opportunities for product, digital services & solutions and business model innovation.

This position is for building out and leading the AI Engineering function at RCB. The charter of this function will be to define and deliver on the AI technology strategy, technology stack, roadmap, implementation, deployment and ongoing support plans for HP's global Print Software, Platform & Solutions (PSPS) business. The scope of this function will involve both AI-enabling current Print capabilities as well as developing new AI-native capabilities. It will involve working closely with global engineering and business functions in defining and delivering on the function's charter. This function will also act as a trusted advisor and change agent towards delivering value from the power of AI. This position will report to Vice-President and Head of RCB.

Responsibilities:

  • Define and deliver on the AI technology strategy, AI technology stack, roadmap, implementation and deployment plans for PSPS

  • Build out, lead and coach a world-class AI engineering team of AI, Data and Platform engineering architects, engineers and engineering managers

  • Bring state-of-art expertise and thought leadership on AI, Data, Cloud and IoT technologies

  • Work in close partnership with global engineering, architecture, product management, program management and business functions towards AI-enabling & developing AI-native Print capabilities

  • Establish and institutionalize state-of-art AI engineering methodologies, tools and practices

  • Drive ecosystem integration between AI workflows, services, models, platforms and infrastructure

  • Setup and institutionalize robust systems and processes, including measurement, tracking and reporting, for delivering engineering excellence and quality on all AI programs

  • Develop strong AI-specific partner relationships, including technology and outsourcing partners

  • Communicate effectively and develop strong peer, employee and executive relationships across relevant functions

  • Lead and drive organizational change and benefits realization from the power of AI

Education and Experience Required:

  • Bachelor's or Master's in Computer Science or Electronics / Electrical Engineering with proven expertise & experience in AI and digital transformation technologies

  • 15 or more years of related work and people management experience.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Proven expertise and experience on AI & digital technologies, including AI models, machine learning, natural language conversational systems, data engineering, cloud & IoT technologies, platform integration, AI/ML ops, and workflow enablement

  • Strong and high integrity leadership, strategic thinking, analytical & creative problem-solving skills

  • Proven ability to execute, manage change and deliver results

  • Proven ability to lead and work within and across organizational functions

  • Strong customer empathy and orientation

  • Strong experience in Lean and Scalable Agile methodologies & tools

  • Effective communication skills, scaling up, down and across the organization
