What does the role look like?

Role Summary

As a Manufacturing Engineer at Collins Aerospace in Banbury, UK, you'll be instrumental in leading and guiding our manufacturing engineering team to achieve business goals.

Your role involves supporting production, managing project work, and maintaining technical standards to ensure product quality, safety, and compliance. Collaboration with suppliers and customers is vital for daily production and project needs.

Flexibility is key, as occasional additional tasks may arise. You'll also offer proactive support to operations and contribute to ongoing projects, including new product and equipment introductions.

What will your day-to-day responsibilities look like?

  • Provide operational support to ensure adherence to safety protocols, maintain quality standards, and achieve production targets.

  • Develop, implement, and uphold a comprehensive 'standard work' process deck that aligns with rigorous quality management system standards.

  • Program, configure, and operate CNC machining centers equipped with Mazak and Fanuc controls.

  • Program, configure, and operate various inspection equipment, including CMMs, MicroVus, and shadowgraphs.

  • Design and fabricate tooling and fixtures to enhance manufacturing processes.

  • Assist in the integration of new products into the machining workflow.

  • Ensure manufacturing methods and processes meet quality, delivery, cost, and lead time requirements.

  • Innovate and enhance machining processes site-wide, exploring and implementing new technologies.

  • Support quality investigations by implementing effective containment measures and conducting thorough root cause analyses for permanent corrective actions.

  • Introduce solutions aimed at reducing manufacturing costs and improving productivity levels.

What will you bring to the role?

Essential skills:

  • Proficiency in CNC machine programming and operation to ensure efficient production processes.

  • Familiarity with metrology equipment operation and programming for maintaining quality standards.

  • Experience with CAD/CAM systems to design and optimize tooling, fixtures, and production processes.

Desirable skills :

  • Experience with configuration control systems

  • Proficiency in programming and operating CNC machines

  • Familiarity with metrology equipment operation and programming

  • CAD proficiency for tooling and fixture design

  • Familiarity with specifying production tooling and equipment

  • Experience with CAD/CAM systems

  • Ability to create clear and concise standard operating procedures

  • Knowledge of PPAP methods for product validation

  • Experience in cost estimation and Make vs. Buy analysis

  • Understanding of engineering drawings and metrology reports

  • Awareness of EH&S legislation

  • Project leadership experience with cross-functional teams

  • Understanding of Lean principles and tools

  • Proficiency in planning and coordinating work activities

  • Methodical and data-driven approach

  • Competence in Microsoft Office applications
