Johns Hopkins University Research Technologist in Baltimore, Maryland

We are seeking a Research Technologist to work under the general supervision of a faculty investigator or laboratory supervisor in GI Cancer, who is responsible for performing routine analyses and tests on animal or human fluids and/or tissue or cultured cell lines. This individual is responsible for the analysis of cancer-related studies ranging from basic science through clinical trials. The individual is expected to function independently and in collaboration with faculty to solve problems posed by the clinical and laboratory investigators with supervision by the Oncology Research Faculty. Candidates who are planning to dedicate at least two years to the position will be given preference.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Work requires the basic use of scientific methods, procedures, and techniques gained through previous training and experience.

  • Uses a basic understanding of the theory behind experiments and applies basic analytical skills to implement assigned projects, and to identify and troubleshoot situations needing special attention.

  • Follows established procedures or protocols and utilizes aseptic technique to perform laboratory tests and/or experiments which may include basic tissue culture, cell separation methods, electrophoretic separations, assays, basic molecular biology, or other specialized histology and biological science techniques. May utilize in vivo models in experiments.

  • Monitors inventory levels, orders materials, and supplies in accordance with established policies and procedures, and counts orders upon receipt.

  • Develop and implement data quality assurance procedures to ensure the validity and reliability of study results.

  • Create analysis datasets for use by other investigators.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Biology, Chemistry or related field.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Some related post-undergraduate work experience.

Starting Salary Range: $15.50 - $26.00 HRLY ($20.75/hr. targeted; Commensurate with experience)
