Johns Hopkins University Research Program Coordinator in Baltimore, Maryland

We are seeking a Research Program Coordinator to provide support, under the direction of Pediatric Pulmonology, for multiple research projects related to pediatric respiratory disease. The research program coordinator will assist in the day-to-day logistical and operational tasks for various studies in the Division of Pediatric Respiratory Sciences. The research program coordinator will work closely with principal investigators in studies of Cystic Fibrosis (CF) and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease COPD.

This Research Program Coordinator will assist in carrying out research in accordance with good clinical practices. Activities will include recruitment of participants, obtaining informed consent, performance of specific research protocols using specific equipment, data and specimen collection, records management, research participant follow-up over time, and communication with team members about projects. Training for specialized testing will be provided.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Ensure adherence to research protocols, operating procedures, and all associated internal/external regulations.

  • Recruit research participants, including obtaining written or verbal informed consent.

  • Use database/spreadsheet to track study participants and requirements.

  • Perform studies of mucociliary clearance using radiolabeled isotopes.

  • Collect and process noninvasive bio-specimens from sputum induction using nebulized hypertonic saline and epithelial cells from nasal brushings.

  • Perform pulmonary function testing using spirometry and multiple breath washout measurements of lung clearance index.

  • Perform nasal potential difference studies.

  • Monitor data quality and accuracy, including preparation of quality control reports to share with the research team.

  • Act as primary contact for study participants.

  • Coordinate participation of subjects, including providing stipend, parking, and public transportation compensation for their participation.

  • Attend research meetings and provide updates on the study progress and issues related to the research.

  • Schedule and confirm study appointments with participants.

  • Ensure that paperwork and study binders are organized and current.

  • Meet regularly with research teams to review data accuracy, recruitment progress, and overall study progress.

  • Perform tasks related to IRB activities (such as audits, reports, and assisting with protocol changes).

  • Perform clerical and other research duties as assigned.

Additional Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Must be comfortable working with children.

  • Must be comfortable collecting and/or handling biospecimens (sputum, nasal cells and blood).

  • Proficient in use of computers, including software applications, databases, spreadsheets, and word processing.

  • Have excellent time management and organizational skills.

  • Be independent and self-motivated.

  • Be highly organized.

  • Have excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Have strong interpersonal skills.

  • Be proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in related discipline.

  • Additional related experience may substitute for required education, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience (i.e. two years) in clinical or medical research setting strongly preferred.

  • Previous knowledge of medical terminology, clinical research practices and principles (GCPs) is strongly preferred.

  • Previous experience and familiarity with EPIC and electronic data capture systems is strongly preferred.

  • Previous experience in the clinical environment, patient recruitment and patient approach is strongly preferred.

Starting Salary Range: Min $17.00 - Max $30.00 HRLY ($44,000 targeted; Commensurate with experience)
