Overview

TheInstructional Assistant I will perform duties that are instructional in nature and will deliver services tostudents in a classroom setting under daily direction of an early intervention teacher. This staff memberwill interact daily with children, encourage language, social, and self-regulatory development. Theincumbent will collect progress and treatment response data; organize the classroom; prepare teachingmaterials; and assist with parent communication and training.

Responsibilities

  1. Carry out instructional programs in accordance with the Individualized Family Service Plan (IFSP),Individualized Education Program (IEP), Office of Child Care (OCC), and Center for Autism andRelated Disorders (CARD).

  2. Understand and integrate IFSP and IEP goals where appropriate as directed by the therapist andteacher.

  3. Prepare instructional materials for the classroom that meet criteria established by the teacher.

  4. Follow classroom routines as outlined by teacher.

  5. Utilize effective behavior management strategies as defined by the teacher or therapist.

  6. Provide for basic care needs of students during groups and parent meetings, as well as throughout theschool day.

  7. Assist in data management functions to include data collection and data entry.

  8. Participate in parent awareness and training activities.

  9. Prepare, lead, and support the teacher’s instructional activities during group and 1:1 activities asdirected by the teacher.

  10. Clean, organize, and maintain the classroom.

  11. Assist with duties related to transitioning children from location to location, including drop-off andpick-up, and playground.

Qualifications

EDUCATION:

• High School diploma or equivalent required.

• College equivalent coursework in Education, Psychology, or related field preferred.

EXPERIENCE:

• Experience providing child care in an approved setting preferred.

• Experience as a paraprofessional in a classroom or with special needs population desirable.
