Maryland Transportation Authority Electrical Engineer (Transportation Engineer V) in Baltimore, Maryland

This is aposition-specific recruitment. The resulting list of eligible candidates will be used to fill this Maryland Transportation Authority position/function only. The Maryland Transportation Authority (MDTA) owns, operates, and maintains eight major toll facilities comprised of four bridges, two tunnels, and two turnpikes, across the State of Maryland. Nature of Work: The Electrical Engineer in the Office of Engineering and Construction will manage large and complex electrical projects including conducting field work and surveys; researching and developing cost estimates, special provisions, maintenance contract specifications, and; managing and designing new systems and renovation projects. Specific duties for this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Reviews and approves submittals from contractors;
  • Writes engineering specifications;
  • Answers Request for Information (RFI) from contractors;
  • Assists with managing On-Call Contract including preparing Statement of Work (SOW), reviewing contractor's cost and quantities for materials, equipment and labor;
  • Develops and maintains task/projects schedules;
  • Tracks and manages budgets for projects;
  • Performs project management and contract administration;
  • Reviews plans for engineering accuracy and adequacy and compliance with federal, state, and local design regulation and standards;
  • Coordinates with other MDTA engineering disciplines and project stakeholders;
  • Reviews the work of consultants;
  • Manage electrical projects from beginning to completion abiding to MDTA project delivery guidelines; and
  • Provides technical assistance for performing emergency or non-emergency electrical inspections and repairs, writing, and assessing inspection reports, making repair recommendations for electrical systems.

Employees in this classification will report directly to Electrical/ITS Discipline Manager.The current vacancy is located in Baltimore, Maryland.Hybrid telework schedules may be available for this position.

Qualifications

Education: Possession of a bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited college or university.

Experience: Five years experience in professional engineering.**Two years of this experience must include the management of electrical or intelligent transportation systems (ITS) related projects. One year of this experience must include project management for major, large, and complex engineering related projects.

  1. Additional work experience in professional engineering, or in technical engineering at the journey level or above, may be substituted on a year for year basis for the required education.

  2. Possession of a Master's Degree in engineering may be substituted for one year of the required experience.

  3. Persons currently registered as Professional Engineers in the State of Maryland, or in a State with comparable requirements, are considered to have met the education requirements.

Licenses and Certifications

Employees in this classification will be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees will be required to possess a motor vehicle operators license valid in the State of Maryland. Applicants must list the license number and date of expiration on the application.
