Johns Hopkins University CO Patient Service Coordinator in Baltimore, Maryland

We are seeking a CO Patient Service Coordinator to maintain clinical needs to ensure patient flow from scheduling to check in. The Patient Service Coordinator will act as liaison between PET Center, patients, insurance company, and billing department and ensures that proper billing codes are used.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Schedule appointments as requested by physicians via Epic Work queue List or faxed orders including anesthesiology when needed.

  • Interview patients and/or family members in order to verify accuracy by collection of demographics, insurance, and referral information,

  • Entering all financial information into the appropriate systems for outpatient needs

  • Coordinate insurance verification, referral/authorization, and pre-certification (when appropriate).

  • Serves as the patients advocate ensuring patient’s access to appropriate clinical services.

  • Organize the scheduling of inpatients from other Johns Hopkins entities accepted as a temporary transfer to Johns Hopkins Hospital for the sole purposes of accessing the PET/CT scanner prior to being returned to the original facility.

  • Arrange special services for patients with language barriers which includes interpreters and arranging transportation when needed.

  • Coordinate patient appointments with other departments within the hospital when necessary.

  • Arrange/rearrange the clinical schedule according to the needs of the department based on equipment availability and necessary resources.

  • Explain financial collections to patient when appropriate.

  • Enter any changes or medications into appointment notes when required.

  • Assist providers with the appeals process for denied authorizations when requested.

  • Assist billing department with proper coding of scans for release of bills that are stopped by internal auditing systems.

  • Assist billing department with follow up on denied claims when necessary.

  • Complete the pre-registration process.

  • Confirm patient appointments for the next day’s clinic which includes providing proper preparation for the scheduled scan and informing patients of directions and the documentation needed for their visit.

  • Assign a Johns Hopkins Medical Record Number when needed.

  • Perform any other duties as needed for the care and safety of any patient or colleague.

  • Compile the next day clinical schedule to include necessary paperwork for registration of each patient.

  • Answer multi-lined phones which includes assisting patients with directions and resolving clinical clerical and scheduling needs.

  • Register patients when requested for PET/CT.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or graduation equivalent.

  • One year work experience in customer service required. Two years related work experience preferred.
