Johns Hopkins University Associate Director CDHAI in Baltimore, Maryland

The Center for Digital Health and Artificial Intelligence (CDHAI) at the Johns Hopkins Carey Business School presents an exciting grant-funded opportunity to serve as Associate Director CDHAI . Reporting to the Co-Directors for the Center, the Associate Director for CDHAI will provide operational oversight over all of the Center’s activities, ensuring that staff and resources are optimally utilized. Activities include research, executive education, outreach to industry partners, planning and execution of major academic conferences, seminars and related meetings, and strategic initiatives related to the Center’s brand activities.

The Associate Director will collaborate closely with a team of dynamic and energetic individuals to help drive innovative research, lead major nationally attended conferences, promote the work of CDHAI to industry and academic leaders throughout the country, and oversee the daily operations of the research function within the Center. This role requires considerable judgment, tact, creativity, adaptability, and initiative; the ability to produce high quality work product within tight deadlines; organizational skills and attention to detail; flexibility and willingness to adjust to changing priorities to meet organizational needs.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

Research

  • Working with Center co-directors, oversee the daily research planning and work of research assistants.

  • Prepare proposals, IRB, and carryout industry research to enhance and inform the work of CDHAI,

  • In collaboration with Center grants administrator and Carey Finance, ensure appropriate funding is secured and utilized in a manner that is compliant with regulations and JHU policy and practice.

  • Produce research papers, whitepapers, presentations, and articles to be submitted for publication in peer-reviewed journals and/or trade publications

  • Oversee the hiring and management of a team of Research Assistants, inclusive of full-time employees as well as students

  • Outreach, including Executive Education

  • Represent CDHAI at local, regional and national meetings.

  • Create custom presentations.

  • Assist with the development of business proposals.

  • Assist with the development and delivery of executive education offerings.

Communications

  • Manage marketing communications in collaboration with internal and external marketing and communications channels, serving as editor of CDHAI's newsletter, and developing CDHAI's web presence and social media presence.

  • Execute programs and projects by deploying best practices for project management, assigning resources, delegating tasks, employing and supervising student assistants and fellows, and delivering and presenting projects to clients and stakeholders.

  • Provide and promote regular and consistent communication with managers and across the CDHAI team, seeking guidance when needed.

  • Conference planning and execution

  • Play a leadership role in the strategic development and execution of Center events and conferences.

  • Manage major events hosted by the center, such as the Conference on Health IT and Analytics (CHITA) and other seminars and related academic and industry events.

  • Collaborate with CDHAI staff and directors, Carey events and marketing teams, and other support departments across the University to navigate logistics and secure the necessary resources for seamless execution of events.

  • Provide financial oversight for all associated events.

Special Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • High level of organizational skills to manage projects, timetables and implementations.

  • Working knowledge of Health Information Technology and Artificial Intelligence.

  • Advanced interpersonal skills to direct and coordinate the activities of multiple projects and positively communicate and work with professionals at all levels of the organization.

  • Analytical ability to develop and interpret application of literature and data.

  • Superior organization skills and attention to detail, including the ability to manage project plans, collect and analyze data, and manage multiple projects at one time.

  • Ability to exercise independent judgement, develop, implement, and maintain quality and performance improvement metrics across all aspects of the program.

  • Ability to work well with others, creatively problem solve, and interact in a helpful, friendly, and professional manner.

  • Excellent presentation skills.

  • Strong technical and narrative writing skills.

  • Ability to work independently or in a team setting, adjust to changing priorities, and maintain a professional and positive demeanor.

  • Ability to provide oversight over spending and budgets.

  • Leadership ability to recruit, manage and develop research staff and help with their professional growth.

  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in related discipline required. Master’s degree in related discipline strongly preferred.

  • Five years of related experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s or Doctorate Degree.

  • Two or more years working in health information technology or related field.

  • Research experience 1-2 years.

  • Acquainted with health care and data science /AI terminology and practices.
