Johns Hopkins University Assistant Professor: Wilmer Eye Institute Global Ophthalmic Clinical Research and AI Applications in Retinal Diseases Investigator in Baltimore, Maryland
To promote new and complementary initiatives in the development of AI research for determining habitual or best-corrected visual acuity at home or at local clinics throughout the world from a retinal image, and to coordinate global projects that leverage new retinal imaging devices within an infrastructure that could address childhood and adult blindness throughout the world, the Wilmer Eye Institute (Department of Ophthalmology - Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine) seeks a new faculty member, likely at the Assistant Professor level, to pursue these avenues of research in retina. The investigator will pursue investigations involving artificial intelligence directed retrospective and prospective evaluation of numerous datasets involving retinal images among multiple common and less common retinal diseases. The individual also should have experience and expertise to expand global research in areas of the world where retinal imaging and coordination of expert interpretation of retinal images and accompanying datasets could lead to reduction of childhood and adult blindness where there is an opportunity to prevent such blindness with these approaches. The ideal applicant will be expected to develop a world-class retina research program that incorporates novel applications of AI in retinal diseases, with experience in collaborating across multiple disciplines, such as experts in this field at the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory. Furthermore, the ideal applicant's past research would include clinical experience in the diagnosis and management of retinal diseases and interpretation of retinal images, and should have experience and expertise to expand global research in areas of the world where retinal imaging and coordination of expert interpretation could lead to reduction of childhood and adult blindness.
