GAF Technical & Quality Manager in Bakersfield, California

Job Description:

The Technical & Quality Manager reports to the Plant Manager and is responsible for the Quality and Process Engineering functions related to the TPO, Injection Mold, and ISO production lines to achieve optimum manufacturing performance. He/She provides formal objectives, measurements and schedule accountability for direct reports, including Quality Control Technicians and TPO Process Engineer. The Technical & Quality Manager is responsible for meeting all safety, quality, service, and cost goals for the Technical Services Department.

The Technical & Quality Manager is responsible for all analytical and process related initiatives at the plant. This includes ensuring compliance at all levels including product specifications, product quality, raw materials, safety and environmental. Provide support and resources to all departments to ensure that plant goals are achieved in the areas of safety, quality, productivity, and cost control.

Essential Duties

  • Provide technical support to operating departments in statistical applications, process capability assessment, and problem solving. Coordinate all plant technical support activities as required and participate on project teams to improve existing processes and raw material handling systems. Capture and implement manufacturing “best practices”; ensure root cause analysis using the six building blocks is integral to plant culture.

  • Production, engineering and quality optimization – understand the needs of customers, internal and external translating these requirements into total manufacturing support including product/process improvements, and implement changes to support these initiatives.

  • Support Production, QA, Maintenance, Purchasing and Accounting needs by developing and maintaining accurate process standard databases. Manage and develop systems that audit the quality of finished goods and raw materials. Maintain a high level of technical reporting within the Technical Department including in-depth analysis of changes in plant operating conditions with identified results achieved.

  • Oversee all trials for process improvement, raw materials, and new products. Includes pre-trial coordination, training, post-trial testing, and wrap-up report. Develop a thorough understanding of the raw material technology that can be used to develop year over year BOM planning, and coordinate with Operations to define fitness for use requirements for raw materials.

  • Manage quality department personnel. Create development plans and manage development opportunities. Support their job function responsibilities as needed.

  • Manage programs, processes, process design, and evaluations for capital projects in an effort to systematically evaluate the performance of the manufacturing process and lead to modified techniques which will improve cost and quality. In some cases manage project implementation.

This position has 4 direct reports and oversees the trial budget.

  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds

Under This Roof, We Require

  • BS degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, or Chemical) required; BS degree in ChemicalEngineering preferred

  • Minimum of (5) years’ engineering experience in a continuous process environment required;minimum of (3) years in a leadership role within GAF preferred

  • Must have experience in a high volume manufacturing operations, preferably continuous process as well as physical lab testing operation and development of lab test procedures.

Annual Salary Range: 130,500-166,750
