Full Job Description

The Construction Superintendent oversees all construction activities, and coordinates the work of all trades. The position maintains quality control throughout the course of the project all while keeping the project on schedule. Knowledge of plans and specifications is a must. Basic computer skills are required. This position requires the ability to work with a diverse team, while achieving all goals of the construction project. The Construction Superintendent must be able to be trained to build and update a computerized construction schedule.

Duties

  1. In charge of all Colombo Construction employees and equipment on the project.
  • a.Responsible for the work, workmanship, and safety of Colombo Construction employees on the project.
  • b.Responsible for the protection (from loss or damage) and daily maintenance of Colombo Construction equipment.
  • c.Report any dangerous or defective equipment to the general superintendent, including any tools or vehicles.
  • d.Responsible for holding safety meetings weekly.
  1. Responsible for coordinating with general superintendent for temporary power, water, phone, fencing, toilets, and office; office equipment, supplies, and furniture; manpower and equipment.

  2. Responsible for coordinating scheduling and workmanship of all prime contractors, subcontractors and suppliers on the project.

  3. Responsible for oversight of prime contractors and subcontractors safety measures on the project.

  4. Work with the project manager to keep him/her informed of all changes to the plans, construction, schedule, and/or cost to the project.

  5. Review Bid Packages with Project Manager and advise on their scope.

7.Review shop drawings/submittals.

  1. Coordinate with and supervise work of the Project Engineer when a PE is assigned to the project.

  2. Create and update construction schedule.

  3. Responsible for keeping as-built drawings up-to-date, throughout the project and compiling as-built drawings from subcontractors upon completion of the project.

  4. Coordinate with Administrative Assistant on all documentation for the project.

  5. Coordinate and conduct Owner and Contractor progress meetings.

  6. Responsible for writing RFIs (Requests for Information) when information is needed from Owner/Architect/Engineer, etc.

  7. Responsible to see that all approved change orders are carried out and completed.

  8. Ensure encroachment permits are obtained and inspected for any items requiring encroachment permits (any offsite work, street, sidewalks, etc.).

  9. Ensure inspections are called for and signed off as required.

  • a.Be sure final inspections are signed off by the City, County, Fire Dept., Planning Dept., Public Works Dept., Health Dept., etc. as required.
  1. Ensure that USA (Underground Service Alert) has been notified 2-days prior to any digging/excavation on the jobsite or in the street. (There is no minimum depth for calling USA).

  2. Contact and coordinate with utility companies for permits, applications, service and schedule.

  3. Coordinate with Owner/Architect/Inspector for final job walk and punch list.

  4. Forms to be filled out by the superintendent:

  • a.Time cards (weekly)
  • b.Daily Journals (daily)
  • c.Daily Reports (daily)
  • d.T and M (Time and Material) sheets, weekly on all projects.
  • e.Safety Meeting Reports (weekly).
  • f.Prepare construction schedule and update as needed.
  • g.Pay request percentages (monthly)
  • h.Field Work Directives (FWD) as needed
  • i.RFIs (Requests for Information) as needed
  1. Other tasks as assigned.
