Job Description

Provides nursing care to Life Flight. Follows and adheres to Act 37 standards and protocols.

  • Provides nursing care from initial contact until patient care is relinquished to accepting medical facility.

  • Maintains thorough patient care documentation in the Electronic Medical Record.

  • Practices nursing within their scope of practice as defined by the state and Geisinger, maintains competency in knowledge and psychomotor skills by participating in ongoing laboratory and clinical experiences.

  • Communicates educational needs to the Life Flight clinical leadership team, Operations Manager or Medical Director.

  • This includes maintaining skills checklist and continuing education record monthly, attends continuing education programs pertinent to area of practice.

  • Remains knowledgeable in use and routine maintenance of all equipment and supplies used by Life Flight.

  • Maintains medical interior of Life Flight aircraft and ground ambulances.

  • Assures adequate inventory of equipment and supplies.

  • Assures orderly environment in Hangar and Elevator Glasshouse areas as well as assigned Life Flight base.

  • Functions as a flight crew member.

  • Assists the pilot when needed.

  • This includes attending pre-mission briefings and mission debriefings and completes necessary documentation.

  • Serves as member of neonatal retrieval team when transporting neonatal patients by air or ground transport.

  • Complies with safety standards to assure safety of self, medical crew members, patient and equipment during all phases of flight.

  • Serves as a role model, teacher and clinical resource.

  • Acts as preceptor and participates in orientation of new employees and students as assigned Completes reports when applicable for all safety related incidents.

  • Participates in required patient safety education programs and other activities designed to improve departmental and organizational safety.

  • Provides input to the clinical management team for performance appraisals of care delivery team members.

  • Problem solves, troubleshoots and takes corrective measures in care and handling of equipment. ​

    Works in a patient care environment in and around aircraft and is exposed to possible infectious diseases and chemical toxins. Position may require sitting for long periods of time in a helicopter or in an office environment. Ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds. Exposed to non-conventional motion, noise, vibration, jet fumes, and extreme temperatures. Working conditions in or near aircraft and/or aircraft hangar environment on a daily basis and may be exposed to loud aircraft noise, fumes, gases, odors, dust particles, and mechanical and electrical hazards. Travel may be required. Employee may not exceed 275 lbs in weight in flight gear. Accountable for satisfying all job specific obligations and complying with all organization policies and procedures. Position Details

Schedule Details: Full time, Rotation (D/N) ,.9 FTE (3, 12 hour shifts) every other weekend, every other holiday. Varying start times

Required Certifications: one of the following specialties:

CCRN- Critical Care Flight RN

CEN Certified Emergency Nurse Specialization

CFRN Certified Flight RN

CTRN- Certified Transport RN Specialization

CFRN required within one year of orientation.

*NRP and STABLE required within the first year of hire.

Required experience: Three years of nursing experience, minimum of two years critical care experience (includes ED experience).
