Summary About the position: This position is located at the Skills Development Center on Aviano AB, Italy. This is a NAF (Non-Appropriated Fund) position assigned to the 31st Force Support Squadron at Aviano AB, Italy. Responsibilities Assists automotive mechanics in performance of maintenance and repair on all combustion powered vehicles. Helps with repairs that can be accomplished by removing, replacing, adjusting, or cleaning defective parts or components such as fouled spark plugs, worn brake shoes, water pumps, engine gasket belts and hoses, etc. Under direct supervision of the automotive mechanic or higher grade worker, removes and replaces with standard parts, items such as spark plugs, fan belts, starters, fuel pumps, mufflers, etc. Observes environmental, safety, and security rules and regulations. Cleans shop area, as required, or requests patrons to tidy up their own work areas. Must be physically able to frequently lift, handle, and carry objects weighing up to 40 pounds, and occasionally, with assistance, objects weighing up to and over 50 pounds. Qualifying Experience: A basic knowledge of automotive repair such as could be gained at the high school or trade school level preferred. Ability to use standard and metric automotive hand powered tools required. Must have effective oral and written communication skills. Ability to operate a motor vehicle - valid Driver's License is required. Must be able to frequently lift, handle and carry objects weighing up to 40 pounds, and occasionally, with assistance, objects weighing up to and over 50 pounds. Must be able to frequently stand, bend, stoop, crawl, and work in tight spaces for long periods of time. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Education Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. This position does not allow for education substitution in order to qualify. Additional Information Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration.
