General Description: The Fund for Veterans’ Assistance awards competitive reimbursement grants to non-profits and units of local governments serving Texas veterans and their families. The Communications Coordinator serves as a member of the Texas Veterans Commission Fund for Veterans’ Assistance team. The Communications Coordinator assists with implementing marketing, promotional, and outreach campaigns directed to community and professional groups to coordinate, improve, and stimulate interest in FVA programs and revenue sources./To promote a strong environment, TVC maintains a telecommuting policy. The policy is decided by division and contingent on continued performance.///

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

· The Communications Coordinator assists with implementing marketing, promotional, and outreach campaigns directed to community and professional groups to coordinate, improve, and stimulate interest in FVA programs and revenue sources.

· Serves as the FVA liaison to the TVC Communications & Outreach Department and assists with preparing press releases for news media and responding to general FVA inquiries including media requests and developing FVA Fact Sheets and Talking Points.

· Maintains, collects, and prepares grant award, application, and media data to create reports and informational materials in response to inquiries made by the public, the Legislature, and other external organizations.

· Develop and maintain website content and participate in usability testing.

· Generate and maintain mass email marketing lists and announcements.

· Plan, support and/or conduct outreach activities to recruit veteran serving organizations.

· Prepare and deliver presentations to stakeholders and the non-profit community.

· Prepare content for posting on social media sites, such as broadcast messages.

· Work hours other than 8-5 may be required for this position for work-related functions.

· Performs related work as assigned.

Education:

Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in journalism, public relations, advertising, communications, or a related field. Experience may be substituted for education on a year-by-year basis.College Transcripts are required, it is preferred they be attached to the application.

Experience:

Minimum two (2) years of experience with WordPress is required. Minimum two (2) years of experiencein journalism, public relations, public information, communications, or media relations work is required.

Additional Requirements: Commute to the physical workplace in Austin, TX, 5 days a week with telework option after 6-month probation. A valid Texas Driver’s License must be provided within 90 days of hire. * * Preferred Experience and Qualification:

Experience with WordPress, Mass Marketing Tools, and Microsoft Word Applications.

Experience with customer satisfaction survey data (collections and analysis)

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

· Knowledge of agency functions, policies, and procedures; of news and communication media; of editing and preparing informational material; of copy layout; and of publishing and broadcast industries.

· Skill in editorial and design concepts and practices, and in the use of a computer and applicable software.

· Ability to research and prepare information, to design communication plans and materials related to the goals and priorities of the agency, to compose content for the Web, to prepare copy and scripts, to design broad communications plans and materials, and to communicate effectively.

· Skilled at working in a team environment and facilitating working relationships.

· Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

· Ability to perform work within the required time and able to meet scheduled deadlines.

  • * *Environmental & Physical Conditions: * Normal office work environment, mostly sedentary in nature. May involve walking; standing; remaining stationary for long periods of time; pulling and pushing; kneeling, stooping, and bending; and safely lifting and carrying items weighing up to 30 pounds. Work involves extensive telephone usage and repetitive hand/wrist/finger motions while using the computer.
