Microsoft Corporation Technical Solution Manager- Cloud Supply Chain Sustainability in Austin, Texas

Microsoft’s Cloud business is expanding, and the Cloud Supply Chain (CSCP) organization is responsible for enabling the infrastructure underlying this growth including AI! CSCP’s vision is to empower customers to achieve more by delivering Cloud Capacity Differentiated at Scale. Our mission is to deliver capacity for all cloud services predictably through intelligent systems driven by continuous learning and a world class organization. The CSCP Organization is responsible for traditional supply chain functions such as Plan, Source, Make, Deliver, but also manages supportability (spares), decommissioning and disposition of Data center assets worldwide. We deliver the core infrastructure and foundational technologies for Microsoft's over 200 online businesses including Bing, MSN, Office 365, Xbox Live, Skype, OneDrive and the Microsoft Azure platform for external customers. Our infrastructure is comprised of a large global portfolio of more than 200 datacenters supporting services for more than 1 billion customers in over 90 countries worldwide.

Microsoft’s Cloud Supply Chain (CSCP) business unit is responsible for key aspects of the cloud supply chain, from planning and execution to capacity provisioning, decommissioning and dispositioning of datacenter assets worldwide. CSCP also has responsibility for managing and executing the cloud sustainability strategy, ensuring that the cloud supply chain is continually optimized to support Microsoft’s environmental goals for a sustainable future.    

As Microsoft scales to become the global leader in cloud deployments and services, we are embedding sustainability across the product lifecycle by deeply understanding the sustainability impact of our supply chain and cloud hardware underpinning this growth. With a science and data centric approach we want to lead the industry and deploy supplier sustainability initiatives to enable supply chain transformations.  

This supplier engagement Technical Solution Manager role within CS4 PMO’s Sustainability team will play a critical role in this transformation, evolving our Supplier Engagement program. This role will navigate the suppliers contributing to our cloud IT infrastructure and align on commitments and sustainability corporate targets and drive plans of record partnering with and ensuring these suppliers can meet our climate goals. The role will work closely with environmental leads from each of our suppliers and at Microsoft, supply chain leads, data scientists and engineers within a world class supply chain organization.

Responsibilities

• Bring carbon accounting experience with a deep understanding of GhG Protocol, Environmentally Extended Input Output (EEIO) models and methodologies, process-based life cycle assessments, CDP disclosure platform, and other GhG information exchanged with MS suppliers

• Manage cadence of internal and external supplier engagement program to enable suppliers to meet Microsoft’s ambitious environmental goal. This includes driving commitments and communication plans to inform stakeholders, enable supplier disclosures, and build supplier capabilities

• Develop content for 1-1 supplier ongoing meetings. Ensure supplier data and security is maintained and monitor the mailbox to respond to all supplier inquiries

• Drive initiatives working with data scientists, engineering, sourcing, legal, and other groups.

• Ongoing automation and improvements to the quality of data

• Drive quality improvements on internal and supplier-provided data working with various groups to reconcile data sets

• Manage ongoing internal/external emissions approval process to ensure stakeholders are aligned on performance

• Collaborate with internal stakeholders including Microsoft supply chain teams to align commitments and realize cross-program synergies and impacts

• Drive initiative to integrate Supplier Engagement program deeply into key stakeholder’s tools and processes

• Participate in internal and external audit as needed

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Engineering, or related field AND 6+ years experience in Engineering, Operations, Project Management, or Programming

  • OR Master's Degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Engineering, or related field AND 4+ years experience in Engineering, Operations, Project Management, or Programming

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • 5+ years working in a professional corporate environment with executive level presentation skills

Other Requirements:

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Understanding of sustainability methodologies including GhG Protocol, Environmentally Extended Input Output (EEIO) models, process-based life cycle assessments, CDP Disclosure platform, or other related methodologies

  • Ability to articulate complex concepts simply and technical process documentation experience

  • Demonstrable program management skills, including ability to direct multiple projects simultaneously with strong organizational skills and attention to detail

  • Communication skills, with track record of working with senior leadership in a business to business context. Ability to navigate and achieve positive outcomes in an ambiguous context

  • Ability to think strategically while completing day-to-day execution

  • 10+ years’ technical and analytical experience in the context of corporate sustainability, supply chains and sustainability

  • Ability to work independently when required, and as part of a team

  • Ability to write white papers, strategy

Technical Solution Management IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $115,000 - $200,300 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $146,200 - $219,200 per year.
