Whole Foods Market Senior Team Leader, Project Management in Austin, Texas

Job DescriptionProvides leadership and oversight to the Project Management family. Oversees the definition, development, and organization of project value propositions, work plans, resource needs, timelines, and budgets. Orchestrates resources (capital, staff, and other) to ensure project objectives are achieved on time, within scope, and on budget. Directs overall project planning, prioritization, change management, delivery, and post-delivery evaluation. Ensures project scope, planning, and implementation align with client expectations and business needs. Ensures alignment between multiple projects.

Responsibilities:

  • Leads a team or teams responsible for a portfolio of medium- to large-sized projects.

  • Works closely with functional leaders to understand business and process needs and structure projects accordingly.

  • Consults and advises Project Managers and customers on issue identification, resolution strategies, and on change management.

  • Sees that effective controls are in place to monitor the full project lifecycle.

  • Devises and implements complex project plans, specifications, and schedules.

  • Makes sure critical outcomes are met for each project, program, and/or portfolio.

  • Develops strategies to resolve key issues presented by Project Managers, customers, and sponsors.

  • Ensures alignment between internal team activity and overall Project Management operations strategy and objectives.

  • Engages with functional and business leaders to ensure mutual understanding of project objectives, participation levels, and expected outcomes.

    Skills:

  • Ensures alignment between Project Management and the organization’s overall vision, values, mission, and business strategies.

  • Ensures team services adapt and change as the business evolves.

  • Supports individual development and replacement planning efforts within the function.

  • Consults with business leaders on functional and operational processes, challenges, and related issues and trends on project plans designed to improve efficiency and effectiveness.

  • Serves as a trusted advisor from a Project Management perspective.

  • Translates strategic objectives into clear, actionable steps at the local and regional level.

  • Identifies risks / threats in current or emerging operational strategies and outcomes.

  • Understands how risks / threats may impact operational effectiveness, resources, and costs.

  • Collaborates cross-functionally to ensure the implications inherent in Project Management analyses are understood and form the basis for sound decision-making.

  • Leads detailed task / project planning, including cost, schedule, and resource requirements.

  • Ensures planning incorporates data and information from customer, supplier, partner, and company perspectives.

  • Collaborates with task / project stakeholders to identify, evaluate, and resolve emerging and anticipated issues.

  • Leverages data-driven insights to recommend and implement task / project management and delivery methodology continuous improvement.

  • Demonstrates clear understanding of WFM’s core business and customer / market / partner interfaces.

  • Assesses how products, processes, and operating models impact the company’s business and financial performance.

  • Understands how changes in customer expectations, the competition, new businesses, new markets, and evolving strategies impact the company’s competitive position and long-term prospects.

    Education & Experience:

  • BA/BS degree and 6-8 years’ relevant experience OR equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.

  • 2-4 years’ leadership experience.
