Amazon Packaged Application Developer, WFM Data and Analytics Tech Applications in Austin, Texas

Description

Are you an experienced software engineer wanting to be part of a growing business? Do you want to build Operational Applications and create Business Intelligence solutions as well?

This role is in Amazon's Worldwide Grocery Stores Data and Analytics organization. We work with all aspects of the grocery business - that includes Supply Chain, Finance, Marketing, Space Planning, etc. We use an in-house platform to configure and build applications to support functions such as Retail Pricing and Cost Management while delivering Analytics across multiple business dimensions.

This role will work with Product Managers and business stakeholders to convert business requirements to technical spec and build out deliverables.

Key job responsibilities

The focus for Application Engineers is on implementing, configuring, enhancing, maintaining, and integrating systems as well as building custom applications on the application stack with the vendor toolset or internal Amazon tools. In this role you will become proficient in an internal Amazon tool which is a low-code / configurable platform used for building Analytics as well as transactional Applications with workflow. In this role you will

  • proactively and continually improve your level of knowledge about Amazon’s Grocery business, the business processes in the domain of your key stakeholders, and relevant technologies supporting those processes.

  • understand functional requirements and work to improve the end user experience for the application supported.

  • employ modeling and flowcharting techniques to communicate technical solutions in a simple but effective manner.

  • Collaborate with Product Managers and stakeholders to define deliverables and timing.

  • work with Product Managers to build mockups and prototypes of applications or reports

  • analyze data and design data models to support Applications and Analytics

  • build ETL pipelines using AWS Glue and in-house platforms.

  • Provide Production support rotation for applications

  • Provide Technical Support for stakeholders to provide Training to other teams.

A day in the life

A day in the life of this role includes a meeting with a business stakeholder or product manager to flush out needs in one domain, followed by continuing to design/build either an Application or Analytic for another domain that could involve a joint design session with other tech teams.

About the team

Customer Obsession and focus on the business is key to this team. We are working in a highly integrated internal Amazon product, so the right candidate will need to learn cross functional domains and be open to learning a large breadth of the retail business. Everyone on the team needs to be entrepreneurial and work in a fast-paced, ambiguous, and highly collaborative environment that is more startup than big company.

Basic Qualifications

  • 5+ years of non-internship professional software development experience.

  • Proficiency in Data Engineering

  • Proficiency in Database Design

  • Advanced SQL skills including tuning for performance

  • Basic S3 management, CLI scripting

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with other package / configuration software (SAP, PeopleSoft, WorkDay, Salesforce)

  • Grocery / Retail experience

  • Agile experience

  • Excellent written/verbal communication skills

  • Experience working in a fast paced, ambiguous environment
