Amazon Network Development Manager, Wireless Engineering in Austin, Texas

Description

Amazon OpsTech Infrastructure Engineering is looking for a highly motivated Development Manager for our Reliability Engineering team. The Reliability Engineering team owns ensuring our wireless products and designs are highly available and reliable for our customers. We identify, mitigate, and ultimately resolve risks within our network, validate solutions and operational readiness, and partner to deliver scalable software solutions that reduce TOIL or enable greater use of human effort. The Develop Manager develops the networks for all of Amazon’s fulfillment business supporting retail operations. If you are passionate to help build next generation networks that Robotics and IoT in retail space, this is the role.

As Engineering manager you will lead a team of experienced development engineers and have ownership for global, end-to-end delivery of one of the key areas, including architecture, capacity management, implementation, operational standards, process management. At Amazon, we expect our technical leaders to be able to dive deep and get involved in addition to being strong managers.

As a manager within the Networking team you will be expected to drive operational excellence in everything we do. This includes creating workable processes and procedures and to improve efficiency in our day-to-day tasks and projects. You will work closely on supporting our internal customers and ensuring that their needs and issues are being addressed.

Key job responsibilities

Network Development

• As an engineering manager you will deliver highly scalable network architectures that are globally deploy-able

Network Measurement

• As a Network Engineering manager you will be expected to drive quality into the metrics we report to assist us in focusing on the areas that give us the best ROI. This includes measurement of our project plans, build schedules, issues, and cycle times.

Performance Management/Team Health

• You will own all facets of performance and career management for the team. Regular one-on-one meetings with all team members are required. You will be expected to provide both technical and soft skill mentoring in order to maintain a well-rounded, truly innovative organization. This includes project management, quality audits and coordination of training sessions with senior-level engineers.

Incident/Change Management

• You will be integral to developing and improving incident and change management within the Networking space. Responsibilities include driving initiatives regarding improvements to existing tools & processes and providing feedback on new practices & procedures in order to scale with the rapid expansion of the Amazon platform and customer base.

Recruiting and Hiring

• You will take the lead in hiring quality personnel who not only fit the needs of the current organization but also will allow the team to scale with platform and service growth. You will coordinate with Amazon and external recruiting staff to evaluate potential candidates, participate in initial phone screens and provide relevant guidance and feedback during on-site interview loops. You will also ensure that proper training takes place for all new hires.

Basic Qualifications

  • · A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution with focus in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or another related field. · Excellent design, implementation, and skills combined with a proven documentation methodology. · 2+ years’ experience in designing and operating large-scale, production networks · 3+ years of experience with major routing protocols · 3+ years of experience with routing and switching hardware, or experience with wireless deployments and equipment · Ability to mentor team members · A genuine passion for building systems that are simple and work well · Excellent written and verbal communication skills ·

Preferred Qualifications

  • A Master’s degree from an accredited institution with focus in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or another related field. · Advanced knowledge in automating network deployments · Multiple years experience in a networking team with global scale · 2+ years of experience building solutions using AWS technologies · 2+ years of experience in a high level programming language · Multiple years experience building solutions using AWS lambda, CFN, EC2, StepFunctions. · Maintaining an active CWNP certification Amazon is committed to a diverse and inclusive workplace.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $127,300/year in our lowest geographic market up to $247,600/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
