TEXAS WORKFORCE COMMISSION Bankruptcy Specialist Accounts Examiner (Hybrid) in Austin, Texas

The chosen job candidate will be required to work onsite at the TWC Main Building in downtown Austin, TX during their first six months of employment or probationary period. Upon successful completion of their probationary period, the supervisor will collaborate with the employee to establish a hybrid telecommuting and in-office schedule. This position is not remote.

You must be a Texas resident to work for the Texas Workforce Commission or willing to relocate to Texas.

WHO YOU ARE: A detail-oriented professional who is comfortable with the application of state and federal regulations and discussing complex issues with court and finance professionals. Someone who is ready to excel in a team environment, collaborating with accounting and auditing staff who specialize in working with courts, attorneys, accountants, and other professionals dealing with bankruptcy issues.

WHAT YOU WILL DO: Bankruptcy Specialist Accounts Examiner III-IV performs moderately complex to highly complex (senior-level) accounts examination work. Work involves examining and auditing reports and financial accounting records; filing federal bankruptcy claims on parties owing taxes, fees, or penalties to TWC. Works under general to limited supervision, with limited to considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

YOU WILL BE TRUSTED TO: - Direct agency actions to ensure compliance with the US Bankruptcy code and other insolvency proceedings; examining and auditing tax reports, financial accounting records, and bankruptcy court filings; and coordinating the collection of fees, taxes, or penalties. - Ensure that TWC does not violate the Automatic Stay provision of the United States Bankruptcy Code and ensure that the interest of the agency are protected. - Research the U.S. Bankruptcy Code and provide guidance on tax law regulations and other state statutes to field tax auditors, collections personnel and other agency personnel concerning bankruptcy, receiverships, assignments for the benefit of creditors, and probate. - Prepare and review Proofs of Claim for submission to US Bankruptcy Court to ensure accuracy and compliance with all federal and state laws governing the protection of sensitive personal information. - Examine Unemployment Insurance tax records of employers to secure collection of past-due taxes in accordance with the Texas Unemployment Compensation Act, Texas Labor Code. - Perform other duties as assigned.

YOU QUALIFY WITH: -Accounts Examiner III: Three years of full-time experience in maintaining accounting records or performing auditing work. -Accounts Examiner IV: Four years of full-time experience in maintaining accounting records or performing auditing work. -Both Levels: Relevant academic credits may be applied toward experience qualifications for this position.

YOU ARE A GREAT FIT WITH: - 1 to 2 years bankruptcy experience preferred. - 1 to 2 years of experience in debt collection. - 1 to 2 years of experience with Texas Workforce Tax system a plus. - 3 years of experience with Microsoft (MS) Windows based programs, including MS Outlook, MS Word, and spreadsheet applications and familiarity with Adobe Acrobat. - Knowledge of payroll tax liabilities and related issues. - Ability to organize and prioritize a workload with multiple tasks and deadlines. - Ability to communicate effectively, organize and prioritize a workload with multiple tasks and deadlines.
