OIG is responsible for preventing, detecting, auditing, inspecting, reviewing, and investigating fraud, waste, and abuse in the provision of Medicaid and other HHS programs. Work is conducted in accordance with generally accepted government auditing standards and OIG Audit policies and procedures.Generally, auditors participate in and complete Generally Accepted Governmental audit activities related to:and#149; Developing audit objectives, scope, programs, and testing procedures.and#149; Identifying and documenting relevant criteria; business and program operations; processes and controls; and information technology systems.and#149; Assessing risk and identifying key controls relevant to the audit objective(s).and#149; Evaluating agency, contractor, and provider compliance with laws, rules, regulations, policies, generally accepted accounting principles, and other relevant criteria.and#149; Evaluating whether HHS agency and contractor resources are being used efficiently and effectively.and#149; Documenting work performed.and#149; Developing audit issues and recommendations for improvement.
