Description for External Candidates

This position reports to Rick Crump, Supervisor of Hog Receiving-Nights-Austin Plant

The work schedule for this position is Monday-Friday, approximately 2:30 p.m. to 1:00 a.m. There may be some slight adjustments in the hours, so the schedule will be discussed further during the interview. Overtime is required. Saturday and Sunday work is frequent. Flex time is not available.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The person in this position:

  • Completes the necessary procurement transaction information and receives animals according to the Hormel Foods Procurement department’s rules and regulations.

  • Serves as the front-line Hormel contact with producers and transporters, requiring strong communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Enforces Hormel's animal welfare and handling policies.

  • Provides relief coverage in Grade & Yield department, as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required

  • Demonstrate a strong pattern of written and verbal communication skills.

  • Physically able to assist in gently rolling 200 - 300 lb. non-ambulatory animals.

  • Ability to withstand a wide variety of temperature / climate changes.

  • Ability to withstand higher levels of noise, dust, and odors associated with livestock on a daily basis.

  • Understanding that incumbent may be vulnerable to animals bumping into them as the direction of travel of these animals can be unpredictable.

Preferred

  • Good working knowledge of livestock quality and livestock handling.

  • Ability to differentiate between light and heavy hogs.

  • Knowledge of Personal Computer operations.
