Job Requisition #: 027356 Extra Board Material Handler/Production Associate (Open) Job Description: Major Responsibilities: Adheres to all mill safety policies and training as scheduled. Participates in mill-wide safety, housekeeping and all continuous improvement programs (Operational Excellence, Lean Manufacturing, 5S, etc.). Working safe is a condition of employment. Must be willing to work in a tobacco product free environment and a drug free environment with random drug testing. Working as scheduled and arriving on time is a condition of employment. Must be available to rotate shifts monthly, work eight (8) hour shifts and six (6) day work weeks, including weekends for a 24-hours/7-days per week operation. Must be willing and available to work scheduled holidays as necessary. In sound physical condition ability to tolerate cold, heat and humidity while performing manual labor; work can be physically demanding at times. Assists in rolling up broken paperboard in hot, humid conditions when broken paperboard is generated. Moves carts of broken paperboard to stock preparation. Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull 50 LBS. routinely and up to 100 LBS. occasionally. Above 50 lbs. will require two person lift/push/pull. Removes any broken paper generated in the paper making operation. Carries paperboard sheets to bottom of dryers. Pull sheets away when broken. Assists in the processing of paperboard; specifically in the rewinding/slitting/palletizing/banding/weighing/ticketing/shipping of paperboard. Operates overhead cranes to transfer production spools of paperboard from winder to rewinding station. Works with other processing and packaging equipment and tools such as banding tools, slitter knives, sledge-hammers and wedges, etc. Operates lift truck; performs pre-use inspection to ensure proper lift operation. Maintain housekeeping, including clean flooring around winder and rewinder. Learns other production jobs in order to fill temporary vacancies of regular workers during vacation, off days, etc. May assist with maintenance during felt changes or operational shutdowns. Assist with paper-machine felt changes or other tasks as necessary. Responsible for operating state-of-the-art multi-million dollar computerized machinery. Knowledge and Skills: Must be willing to advance in skills and knowledge. Must be at least 18 years old. Have basic computer skills. Ability to work as a team member in an employee based leadership environment. Ability to solve basic math problems, including ability to accurately read a measuring-tape to the 1/32 increments. Ability to comprehend, retain, and perform procedures from verbal and written instructions. Experienced to operate and inspect lift truck units to insure safe and efficient operation is a plus.
