Position Summary:

The Department of Psychiatry collaborates closely with a broad range of clinical departments at the University of Colorado Hospital (UCH) to provide integrated behavioral health care in primary and specialty medical settings. Our Department is committed to hiring a Transplant psychologist with competencies to provide interprofessional, clinical services in the Transplant Service, University of Colorado Hospital (UCH). This position is primarily in the Outpatient Transplant setting with some care provided in the inpatient unit. The psychologist in this role will also be a team member on the Department of Psychiatry’s Adult Division Integrated Behavioral Health Service as well as the Consultation Liaison Psychiatry Service at UCH.

The psychologist recruited for this full-time position will become part of the Department of Psychiatry’s growing and dynamic Adult Division. This is an open rank position and could be categorized as Instructor, Senior Instructor, Assistant Professor, Associate Professor or Professor based on experience and qualifications as indicated below.

Responsibilities include :

  • Conduct psychological evaluations for all live organ donors. Evaluation includes interview and appropriate testing to rule out contraindications for donation.

  • Conduct psychological interviews and testing for potential organ recipients referred by transplant providers.

  • Attend and participate in all interprofessional Transplant selection committee meetings.

  • Work collaboratively with members of the multidisciplinary Transplant teams to develop clinical practice guidelines to ensure participation and buy in of the respective disciplines, including the program’s medical and surgical directors.

  • Provide the full range of evidenced-based psychological screening, assessment, psychosocial & behavioral interventions (e.g., individual, group, family), and education to patients seen in the Transplant Service using best practice models.

  • Provide assessment to patients in the Transplant Service with histories of self-harm, addiction, mental health conditions and prior trauma as well as individuals now at increased risk for depression, PTSD, and relational, financial, and other challenges.

  • Demonstrate competence in diversity of all patients, families, and colleagues with respect to race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, age, gender, gender identity, ability status, religion, political beliefs, socioeconomic status, and any other factors related to systemic oppression.

  • Consult and collaborate with interprofessional Transplant team members to develop intervention strategies related to physical and psychosocial challenges.

  • Actively participate in treatment and follow-up planning for patients and families.

  • Chart patient visits using an electronic medical record.

  • Triage and refer patients as needed to collaborating colleagues across disciplines, departments, and communities.

  • Collaborate with the Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry Service as a team member.

  • Participate in Transplant Service quality and performance assessment projects.

  • Participate in training Department of Psychiatry Post-Doctoral Fellows in Clinical Health Psychology as well as Residents and Fellows in the specialty clinical Department.

Supervision Received

The Transplant psychologist hired in this role will report to the Director of Integrated Behavioral Health, and the Director of Consultation Liaison Psychiatry Services, Adult Division, Department of Psychiatry. Supervision and mentorship will also be available from other seasoned health psychologists in the Department.

Supervision Exercised

The Transplant psychologist in this position may supervise Department of Psychiatry Post-Doctoral Fellows in Clinical Health Psychology and other behavioral health trainees.

Salary and Benefits:

Instructor: The salary range ( or hiring range ) for this position has been established at $90,000 to $105,000.

Senior Instructor: The salary range ( or hiring range ) for this position has been established at $90,000 to $105,000.

Assistant Professor: The salary range ( or hiring range ) for this position has been established at $90,000 to $105,000.

Associate Professor: The salary range ( or hiring range ) for this position has been established at $113,000 to $130,000.

Professor: The salary range ( or hiring range ) for this position has been established at $162,000 to $200,000.

This information represents the 25-50 percentile of the salary range which is reflective of a candidate with 1-7 years of experience. The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty, and training.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Training and experience in integrated specialty care including inpatient or outpatient behavioral medicine and/or Consultation Liaison services.

  • Training and experience in transplant settings.

  • Understanding of the biomedical, psychological, and social factors impacting patients at risk for and seen in transplant programs.

  • Experience on integrated teams in specialty medical settings that promotes an inclusive environment.

  • Experience related to the impact of trauma, substance abuse and social determinants related to health, complex physical conditions, and recovery.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team model and with diverse colleagues, medical specialists, and trainees across disciplines.

  • Demonstrated commitment and leadership ability to advance diversity and inclusion.

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a diverse population of faculty, staff, and students.

  • Strong commitment to interprofessional, team-based care within the Department of Psychiatry and in integrated specialty settings.

  • Interest in developing a collaborative program of research in specialty medical settings, although research interest is not required for this position.
