Job Summary:

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work with the School of Medicine Office of Medical Education and the Department of Pediatrics Academic Affairs Office to support efforts to enhance administrative efficiency, streamline appointments and promotions, strengthen communication with community-based preceptors and share best practices.

  • Work collaboratively with the Chair of the Department's Clinical Faculty Affairs Committee including development of agendas for the Committee's quarterly meetings.

  • Develop and support consistent marketing and outreach efforts aimed at the recruitment and retention of pediatric care providers to the volunteer clinical faculty.

  • Collaborate with medical education leaders in the MD, PT and PA programs to develop and promote new teaching opportunities for volunteer clinical faculty members across the undergraduate and graduate medical curricula.

  • Work with the School of Medicine Office of Medical Education, the Department of Pediatrics Office of Education, and other leaders in student and resident education within the School of Medicine (particularly those invested in pediatric education) to enhance and facilitate processes for training and assessment of trainees and preceptors in volunteer clinical faculty office-based settings and classroom-based teaching settings.

  • Communicate regularly with volunteer clinical faculty by means of emails, newsletters, periodic visits to sites of practice in Colorado, and in-person and/or virtual meetings and events.

  • Work with Department leadership and administrators, volunteer clinical faculty members, alumni and others to identify best practices and develop measurable goals and objectives in recruiting and supporting the volunteer clinical faculty.

  • Develop strategies for recognition and appreciation of volunteer clinical faculty activities.

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

  • MD/DO or other relevant professional degree and a School of Medicine Clinical Faculty appointment at any rank.

  • Demonstrated record of significant accomplishments as a clinician and teacher within the School of Medicine.

Condition of Employment:

The Department of Pediatrics at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus is one of the nation's premier academic pediatric programs. Its clinical and educational programs are consistently rated among the top ten nationally by US News and World Report. The Department is also a leader among Child Health research programs ranking third in the nation in the most recent listing of top National Institutes of Health funded Pediatric Departments with over $63 million in active NIH awards. The Department is seeking qualified candidates for a part-time (20% time/0.20 FTE) position of Lead, Volunteer Clinical/Community Faculty. Under the direction of the Vice Chair for Academic Affairs, the Volunteer Clinical/Community Faculty Lead will oversee a variety of activities and programs designed to support, strengthen and celebrate the work of approximately 300 clinical (volunteer) faculty of the University of Colorado School of Medicine, Department of Pediatrics. The Lead will develop and oversee a series of coordinated programs to: 1) enhance the recruitment and retention of clinical (volunteer) faculty members; 2) work with the Department of Pediatrics Volunteer Clinical/Community Faculty Affairs Committee, Office of Medical Education in the School of Medicine and the Academic Affairs Office in the Department of Pediatrics to streamline and oversee the processes for clinical (volunteer) faculty appointments and promotions; 3) communicate effectively with clinical (volunteer) faculty members, through written and electronic channels, as well as through periodic visits to sites of practice across Colorado and in-person and/or virtual meetings and events; 4) ensure that clinical (volunteer) faculty members receive appropriate Departmental, School of Medicine, and public recognition; and 5) where appropriate, support the efforts of the Department of Pediatrics Office of Education to strengthen clinical (volunteer) faculty preceptor development and clinical teaching capacity/capabilities.
