Primary Purpose of this Position:

Structural & Miscellaneous Steel Estimator : C ompile project estimates for the s upply of s tructural and miscellaneous fabricated s teel on a variety of projects including- c ommercial, industrial, institutional, and governmental. Estimated must include all material, engineering and detailing labor, buyouts and outside s ervices, freight and any other direct c osts.

Essential Job Functions:

  1. Compile complete and thorough project estimates from customer supplied project design information, including plans and specifications, or narratives, efficiently and w ithin the time frame allowed.

  2. Communicate project specifications, coordinate and solicit quotes from outside vendors.

  3. Coordinate and develop proposed scope of w ork w ith customers.

  4. Review the contract documents and specifications and alert the appropriate company personnel of any unusual or questionable terms, conditions or requirements.

  5. O rganize pre-production meetings w hen required prior to the beginning of detailing.

  6. Upon receipt of an order, develop sequencing and determine the requested delivery dates for each through personal contact w ith the DWS Project Manager, customer and erector. Also make any necessary changes to the Project Recap W orksheet to reflect the actual agreed upon requirements.

  7. Compile accurate estimates of tonnage, buyouts, detailing and shop hours for each established sequence.

  8. Review material or subcontract documents received from the customer noting any discrepancies from our proposal.

  9. Develop and maintain accurate estimating standards for material and shop labor.

  10. O ther tasks, including but not limited to administrative functions, as directed by the supervisor.

  11. Maintain contact and develop beneficial business relationships w ith customers.

    K nowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  12. T horough knowledge of steel fabrication practices and procedures.

  13. Excellent ability to read and interpret structural and architectural design drawings and specifications.

  14. Excellent customer service skills including communicative and interpersonal abilities.

  15. Superior math skills.

  16. Ability to manage one’s time and to handle multiple projects simultaneously to meet deadlines.

  17. Ability to produce organized, systematic, and thorough estimates.

  18. G ood knowledge of general construction practices, sequences and techniques as w ell as shop fabrication processes and methods.

  19. G ood computer skills and knowledge.

Qualifications

Physical Demands:

  1. Stand O CCASIONALLY over the course of the 8 -to-12-hour w ork shift.

  2. W alk O CCASIONALLY over the course of the 8 -to-12-hour w ork shift. T he distances w alked w ill range from a distance of a few feet to several hundred feet.

  3. Sit F REQUENTLY to CONTINOUSLY over the course of the 8 -to-12-hour w ork shift.

  4. L ift w eights up to 30 pounds O CCASIONALLY from floor to head level, w hich includes the various prints, books, binders, and papers utilized to perform the usual w ork duties.

  5. L ift w eights up to 50 pounds RARELY to O CCASIONALLY from floor to chest level, w hich may include boxes of papers, books, etc.

  6. Carry w eights noted above distances ranging from a few feet to several hundred feet. 50 pounds w ould be carried 50 feet. Lifting devices are available.

  7. Climb O CCASIONALLY onto steps or ladders.

  8. Stoop or crouch O CCASIONALLY w hile performing regular job duties. T asks w ould include looking in filing cabinets, removing supplies, and restocking paper in the copier. T he position w ill be held continuously for a few seconds to a few minutes, depending upon the task.

  9. Kneel O CCASIONALLY in the commission of job duties, depending upon the task.

  10. Crawl O CCASIONALLY up to 10 feet to plug in equipment, retrieve dropped materials, etc.

  11. Reach forward O CCASIONALLY to F REQUENTLY to perform job duties or to retrieve tools. T he employee w ill

    O CCASIONALLY to F REQUENTLY be required to reach to full forward extension.

  12. Reach overhead O CCASIONALLY to retrieve books, supplies, etc.

  13. Push and pull drawers open O CCASIONALLY to F REQUENTLY to retrieve tools or supplies.

  14. G ross finger dexterity skills required operating the mouse utilized in the course of standard job duties. F ine finger dexterity is not required.

    N on-Material Handling Demands

  15. Employee is expected to work 40 hours a w eek. However, hours including overtime and w eekends may be required based on Drake-Williams Steel’s needs.

  16. Hear sufficiently to be aware of safety issues.

  17. Visual ability to read and interpret material to satisfactorily do job.

  18. Exposure to h eat, cold, wet and humid conditions O CCASIONALLY.

  19. Exposure to fumes, odors and dusts O CCASIONALLY.

  20. Exposure to solvents, greases, oils, and coolants O CCASIONALLY.

  21. W ear all required Personal Protective Equipment. PPE includes steel-toe safety shoes, hearing protection, safety glasses, gloves, and hard hats.

    Tools Utilized :

    Pencil, scale, markers, and other miscellaneous office supplies.

    Machines Utilized:

    Computer equipment, Calculator, Adding Machine, Copiers, Scanner, Printers, and Phones.

    Experience and Education Required:

    Project Manager/Estimator

  22. Associate degree in structural steel detailing or CAD drafting experience preferred.

  23. Minimum of 1 y ear of steel fabrication, w elding shop or construction w ork experience.

  24. High school graduate or equivalent.
