Position Description

Job Summary

The Augusta, GA facility is the sole producer of calcium nitrite for the SGCC network supply chain and process engineers are critical to the operations. Reporting to the Plant Manager, the Process Operations Engineer III will be responsible for all aspects for production equipment, maintenance schedule, and facility operations of the Augusta, GA location. The Process Operations Engineer IIIwill also carry out duties in the areas ofEH&S, production, monitoring PLC systems, troubleshooting maintenance issues w/cross functional teams, inventory management, and quality control testing .

EH&S Culture:

  • Maintain a strong commitment to safety by consistently following safety policies and procedures. Promote a safety-first culture and actively participate in safety initiatives and programs.

  • Ensure compliance with all relevant environmental policies, procedures, as well as federal, state, and local laws governing the manufacturing process.

  • Demonstrate a proactive approach to emergency response preparedness. Participate in drills, training sessions, and maintain a thorough understanding of emergency procedures to ensure a rapid and effective response to any unforeseen situations.

  • Maintains EH&S SMAT, Near Miss & First-Aid reporting data.

  • Assists with inspection of facility during daily walk through to detect existing or potential accident and health hazards and recommends corrective or preventive measures where appropriate.

  • Communication with plant management and staff level employees all EH&S matters.

Manufacturing and Operations:

  • Contribute to strategic planning for the long-term success of the manufacturing process. Provide insights and recommendations based on autonomous analysis, contributing to the development of organizational goals and objectives.

  • Demonstrate strong problem-solving skills with the ability to analyze complex situations and make sound decisions. Proactively identify potential issues and implement effective solutions to ensure uninterrupted process operations.

  • Optimize the assigned production process independently. Identify opportunities for process improvement, implement changes, and assess the impact on efficiency, quality, and safety. Act as a key contributor to enhancing overall plant performance.

  • Ensure strict adherence to quality standards and specifications in all aspects of process operations. Conduct regular quality checks, identify deviations, and take corrective actions to maintain optimal production quality.

  • Possess a high level of technical proficiency in operating and troubleshooting various processes and equipment in a chemical manufacturing environment. Ability to quickly adapt to new technologies and stay abreast of industry advancements.

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of process-related activities. Ensure proper documentation of processes, deviations, and corrective actions for reference and audit purposes.

  • Process engineer will be responsible for making facility decisions during production runs, this includes shutting down the production process in the event of mechanical failure, and accounting for unplanned maintenance and downtime

Required Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

  • High School Diploma or accredited GED

  • 2-4 years in a process manufacturing environment; Experience with chemical reaction and blending processes

  • Proficient with computer programs and PLC operations

  • Strong aptitude with verbal and written communications with internal customers, external customers, and maintenance teams.

  • 2-4 years of control systems operations and management; Experience using HMIs to manage process control parameters of chemical processes

  • 2-4 years of process control management of chemical operations; Utilizing HMIs and PLC control systems to monitor and execute process parameters to achieve quality and production targets.

  • Elementary ability to troubleshoot control systems, alarms, and interlocks; Communications to maintenance teams and contractors

Preferred Requirements

  • Chemical/Process Engineering Degree

Licensing and Certification (Required Completion Upon Hire)

  • Must be able to successfully execute all required sections of the ACT WorkKeys test and have the flexibility to work shifts in a high-paced chemical environment and have basic HazMat knowledge.

  • Basic HazMat knowledge
