The Job You Will Perform:

The Fiber Specialist position is a key leadership role on the Augusta Fiber Supply Team. Responsibilities include managing and coordinating wood fiber deliveries into multiple locations in and around the Augusta mill. Duties will include team leadership, supply planning, sourcing/procurement & cost management, cost forecasting, logistics, operations, and inventory management. The Fiber Specialist and his/her team are responsible for all direct pulpwood purchases into the Augusta mill and are responsible for maintaining good working relationships with the mill’s supplier base. Additional responsibilities include managing wood chip procurement and partial oversight of contracted scale house operations. The Fiber Specialist will coordinate with peers at other locations to optimize deliveries and achieve maximum enterprise value.

The Skills You Will Bring:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, Forest Management, or a related field is required

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in procurement, supply chain management, or related fields is preferred

  • Well-grounded in business management with a working knowledge of supply chain management is preferred

  • Working knowledge of the use and application of forecasting & optimization models is preferred

Job Responsibilities / Accountabilities:

  • Actively lead and support total workplace safety.

  • Procure low-cost/sustainable wood fiber in the form of pulpwood and chips.

  • Develop & maintain productive business relationships with key suppliers & external customers.

  • Logistical responsibility for managing 400 loads/day of fiber into 3 receiving facilities.

  • Provide support to maintain a balanced portfolio of sourcing and inventory to achieve the optimum balance between stability and cost

  • Assist with wood sourcing planning, budgeting, and reporting.

  • Coordinate operations and inventory management with the Mill woodyard and support the Fiber Supply Manager in providing leadership to the Augusta Mill Joint Team.

  • Lead efforts to achieve deliberate and continuous improvement and innovation.

  • Develop and maintain an intimate knowledge of the operating area's current state of fiber procurement activities.

  • Create and sustain a high level of engagement for all team members.

  • Ensure compliance with all corporate and governmental environmental requirements within the Augusta basin.

Scope:

  • Responsibility for coordinating and supporting the team’s combined fiber purchases of more significant than 2.5 million tons per year.

  • Provide support to other mills in IP’s East Region as needed.

  • Supervision of salaried employees.
