King County Housing Authority Regional Maintenance Mechanic - Carpentry (Auburn) in Auburn, Washington

Job Summary

This position is open until filled; however, to ensure consideration applications should be received by May 10th 2024.  We are currently recruiting for an experienced and skilled journeyman level professional to maintain, service and repair the housing units as part of our South Regional Upgrade Crew based out of Auburn, Washington.  This position is represented by the Seattle King County Building Trades Council.    This is journey level work maintaining, servicing, repairing, and upgrading public housing residential units; appliances and equipment; and housing properties. The core focus for this role will be carpentry; however,  additional, work includes:

  • Painting
  • Plumbing
  • Electrical
  • Building HVAC work
  • Responding to over-time emergency calls (as needed)

Essential Functions

The Regional Maintenance Mechanic- Carpentry will perform a variety of skilled trades work that may include: 

  • Replacing interior finish work; installing cabinets, solid surface countertops, doors, casing, windowsills, tub surrounds, shelving, blinds, locksets, towel and grab bars, handrails, and bathroom hardware.    

  • Performing fire, water, and mold damage restoration; conducting structural repairs, replacement of exterior doors and windows, roofing, siding, and installing and finishing sheetrock.  

  • Designing and carrying out plans for electrical, plumbing, carpentry, painting, and mechanical work orders; determining work requirements, materials, tools, and equipment needed; completing write up material lists for jobs and researching vendor, product, and costs; reading and interpreting blueprints, drawings, specifications, and manuals.

  • Supporting special project team and site staff as needed.  

     

Qualifications and Competencies

Required Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or GED AND
  • Journey Level status in a building and/or construction trade AND
  • Considerable experience (3+ to 5 years) in construction and/or maintenance of residential buildings.   

Equivalent combination of education and experience will be substituted on a year for year basis for experience qualification.  * *Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Thorough knowledge of:
    • Industry, organization, and departmental operating guidelines, best practices, ordinances and laws.
    • One or more of the following: carpentry, plumbing, painting & drywall, appliance, electrical, HVAC, Re-pinning locks, Window Glazing repairs and maintenance.
  • The ability to:
    • Make arithmetic computations using whole numbers, fractions and decimals; compute rates, ratios, and percentages; perform measurements.
    • Communicate effectively in oral and written form and multitask.
    • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with Authority management, employees, vendors, and the public.
  • Skill in preparing and interpreting work orders, drawings, schematics, CNA (Comprehensive Needs Assessments) of properties, and preventive maintenance records.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Windows Operating Systems, fire panels, work phone operation, and maintenance equipment.
