Registered Dental Hygienist (RDH)
Job Description
The employee reports directly to the Clinical Manager.
Overview: The employee provides exceptional preventative oral health treatment to patients while upholding Rawlins County Dental Clinics mission, vision, and core values.

Specific Duties:
Patient Care & Management
Works with reception to schedule patients with efficiency
Carefully reviews patient charts prior to appointments
Performs thorough prophylaxis to patients
Performs thorough scaling, root planing, and polishing for patients as needed
Administers local anesthetics when appropriate
Placement of medicaments subgingivally for periodontal disease treatment as necessary
Takes appropriate radiographs for diagnoses by dentist
Applies cavity-preventative agents such as fluorides and sealants
Performs head and neck examinations
Communicates and educates patients, parents, and/or guardians in an understandable and professional manner
Maintains patient comfort throughout treatment and helps allay patient anxiety within means
Keeps accurate notes on treatment and treatment planning with dentist
Counsels patients on proper nutrition, oral health care, and preventative practices
Performs other tasks as directed by dentist and clinical manager
Anticipates dentists needs by taking appropriate films and preparing patient for exam (for example, if a patient is missing teeth, discuss replacement options prior to dentist coming in)
Operatory Management & Sterilization
Maintains clean operatory and makes necessary changes as needed
Checks hygiene equipment routinely and reports issues to Clinical Manager
Cleans and resets operatory per office policy at end of each day
Aids with hygiene supply inventory and reports shortages for ordering
Properly discards disposables and moves soiled instruments to lab after each patient
Thoroughly cleans operatory with disinfectant between each patient
Sorts and packages instruments appropriately for sterilization
Loads, starts, and vents sterilization unit according to manufacturers directions and direction from clinical manager
Aids in lab management, keeps areas tidy, and assists in sorting sterile instruments
Restocks operatory supplies as needed, including tooth brush kits
Sharpens instruments as needed to maintain effectiveness and reports damaged/worn out instruments to clinical manager
Records Management
Complies with HIPAA privacy and security measures.
Accurately records medical and dental histories
Accurately documents treatment and patient interactions
Completed services match route sheets and notes
Assists in the administration of the preventative recall system (stressing importance of regular visits, scheduling recalls in room when time allows, etc.)
Conduct
Complies with employee handbook
Stays busy and finds things to do in downtime (e.g. helps in other areas of the office, reports to supervisor for additional duties, helps assistants, lab is kept up, etc.)
Maintains kind and courteous demeanor with patients and co-workers
Actively participates in staff meetings and discussions
Commitment to continuing education, profession, and personal development
Has a team mindset and productively works to foster and maintain tea environment
Actively contributes to day-to-day problem solving
Completes assigned trainings promptly

Requirements:
Completion of an accredited post-secondary dental hygiene program
Active Kansas licensure
Nomad certified (can be obtained on the job)
Compliant with state dental practice requirements
Extended Care Permit (ECP) can be obtained on the job
