Management Solutions Process Engineer or Scientist in Atlanta, Georgia

This position will work closely with the Office of Clean Energy Demonstrations (OCED) which is a multi-technology office responsible for overseeing more than $27B of investment in large scale demonstrations in emerging technologies such as clean hydrogen, carbon capture, advanced nuclear reactors, grid-scale energy storage, industrial emissions reductions as well as demonstrations in rural and socioeconomically disadvantaged regions.

This position is remote, with the expectation that candidates can work during Eastern Time Zone office hours. Residency in the United States is a mandatory requirement.

Job Responsibilities

  • Conduct independent engineering / due diligence technical advisory reviews of clean energy technologies, processes, and projects.

  • Able to evaluate the expected or actual functionality and performance of technology, process, and project.

  • Identify key gaps / needs as it relates to the functionality and performance of technology, process, and project.

  • Identify project risks and risks mitigants of technology, process, and project.

  • Articulate recommendations for improvement (when necessary).

  • Work in teams and independently to provide engineering expertise on various clean energy technologies.

  • Draft independent engineering / due diligence reports on evaluated technologies.

  • Able to draft a data table and risk table (as part of an independent engineering / due diligence report or otherwise).

  • Demonstrate strong written and verbal communication – communicating succinctly and clearly.

  • Liaise with a variety of stakeholders when providing engineering expertise (e.g., clients, technology providers, other engineering disciplines).

Qualifications:

  • This position is remote, with the expectation that candidates can work during Eastern Time Zone office hours. Residency in the United States is a mandatory requirement.

  • Ph.D, Eng.D, or M.Sc. in chemistry, chemical engineering, or closely related field is required.

  • Background in and understanding of energy project processes, such as: biofuels processing; gas stream and solvent systems; carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS) technologies; hydrogen generation (e.g., electrolysis, natural gas reformation) storage, and transportation systems; amine solvent processes for CO2 removal; etc.

  • Ability to review related contracts, such as engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contracts, equipment and raw material supply agreements, O&M agreements, service agreements, and tolling agreements is a plus.

  • Experience providing independent engineering, technical advisory, or due diligence.

  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience practicing in this field.

  • A licensed professional engineer (P.E.) is a plus.

  • Ability to manage projects is preferred.

  • Due to the nature of the government contract requirements and/or clearances requirements, US citizenship is required.
