Chick-fil-A Principal Team Leader, Food Safety Culture in Atlanta, Georgia

Overview

The Principal Team Leader, Regulatory Compliance and Risk Assessment & Mitigation for Restaurant Food Safety will lead a team of food safety professionals to implement strategy, design, and execution of all work related to food safety regulatory compliance. The FDA Food Code is updated bi-annually and becomes the framework that each state uses to create their own code. Individual municipalities also have the latitude to make changes to the state level code. The Restaurant Food Safety, Regulatory Compliance team has the responsibility for staying current with Food Code at all three levels to ensure all restaurant procedures, equipment/small wares, and restaurant design are in compliance in every city we conduct business. This team has the same responsibility for international restaurants as well. The Principle Team Leader for this area of the business must work with tremendous autonomy as they are the face of CFA Inc. and Operators externally with regulatory agencies. They are also the face of Restaurant Food Safety internally as we work with Restaurant Design, Restaurant Experience (Menu, Packaging, Production Design), Supply Chain, Training, and Legal. They provide sound council to upper leadership in regulatory matters and crisis situations (outbreaks, natural disasters, boil water bans, etc.). This role also has the responsibility for conducting food safety risk assessment for the entire business which defines and quantifies food safety risks. This assessment sets the priority for the entire Restaurant Food Safety team.

Responsibilities

  • Leads and influences direct reports, including professionals and / or leaders who understand in detail FDA regulations and how they apply to Chick-fil-A restaurant operations. Knowledge spans international, USA federal, state and local food code regulations

  • Creates, reviews, and influences all procedures, equipment/smallwares, and design in the restaurant, ADP, OCL, DFL, Food Truck, and any other location where Chick-fil-A produces/sells/delivers food to ensure the organization is in full regulatory (food code) compliance

  • Influences strategic direction by assessing food safety risks and providing input to support alignment with other areas of the business

  • Identifies potential risks and opportunities for planning of future team initiatives / priorities

  • Serves as Food Code SME, with ability to leverage this expertise to ensure that team’s tactical plans and activities are executed responsibly

  • Maintains strong working relationships with the FDA, USDA, and state/local health departments

  • Utilizes internal and external resources to understand food code in any country CFA does business

  • Develops and manages restaurant regulatory food safety budget, with focus on stewardship and risk mitigation

Minimum Qualifications

  • Education – Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Food Safety, Biology/Microbiology, Public Health, or similar

  • 8+ years of work experience in Food Safety, Microbiology, or Public Health

  • Strong food safety acumen

  • Strong business acumen (project management, business analytics, etc.)

  • Strong oral and written communication skills

  • Strong multi-tasking and organizational skills

  • Ability to understand and solve complex business problems

  • Ability to work effectively both independently and in a team, environment providing service to Operators/Staff

  • Demonstration of leadership skills and ability to influence change

Preferred Qualifications

  • Chick-fil-A Restaurant experience

  • Chick-fil-A Support Center experience

  • Regulatory experience at the Federal, State, or local level
