Oracle Principal Linux Kernel Software Engineer in Atlanta, Georgia
Job Description
Seeking a senior software engineer for a team that develops, builds and releases Oracle UEK (Linux kernel).
As part of a team, develop, build and release Oracle UEK (Linux kernel). Solve technical problems involving git, kernel APIs, kernel configurations, builds, releases, and upstream Linux. Provide senior technical guidance within the team and across the organization. Establish and promote procedures to enable more efficient development of high quality software.
Guide upcoming Linux team members to technically ramp up and contribute both to upstream software and to Oracle internal kernel code.
Must be a self-motivated individual who can work on multiple projects simultaneously, under strict deadlines.
Broad development and maintenance experience with a variety of areas in the Linux kernel or another Operating System kernel required. Experience on teams that had a collaborative approach to Software Development required.
Additional requirements:
Expert level C coding skills
Experience with kernel internals. Maintainers preferred
Experience developing or maintaining device drivers
Extensive experience handling revisions on Git
Strong build, debug and test skills
Excellent interpersonal, problem solving, critical thinking, and communication skills
Open Source contributions to Linux, Kernel or interaction with the open source community is a plus.
Responsibilities
As a member of the software engineering division, you will take an active role in the definition and evolution of standard practices and procedures. You will be responsible for defining and automating tasks associated with the developing, designing and debugging of software applications or operating systems.
Work is non-routine and very complex, involving the application of advanced technical/business skills in area of specialization. Leading contributor individually and as a team member, providing direction and mentoring to others. BS or MS degree or equivalent experience relevant to functional area. 8 years of software engineering or related experience.

US: Hiring Range: from $94,200 to $223,500 per annum. May be eligible for bonus and equity.
Oracle maintains broad salary ranges for its roles in order to account for variations in knowledge, skills, experience, market conditions and locations, as well as reflect Oracle’s differing products, industries and lines of business.
Candidates are typically placed into the range based on the preceding factors as well as internal peer equity.

Paid time off: Flexible Vacation is provided to all eligible employees assigned to a salaried (non-overtime eligible) position. Accrued Vacation is provided to all other employees eligible for vacation benefits. For employees working at least 35 hours per week, the vacation accrual rate is 13 days annually for the first three years of employment and 18 days annually for subsequent years of employment. Vacation accrual is prorated for employees working between 20 and 34 hours per week. Employees working fewer than 20 hours per week are not eligible for vacation.
