Job Description:

The mission of the Walgreens Community-Based Pharmacy Residency Program in Atlanta GA is to provide postgraduate training that enables residents to achieve their professional goals, become a leader within the profession, provide compassionate care for members of their communities and contribute to the Walgreen Company’s advancement in healthcare.

The residency program is based at the Walgreens health-system pharmacy located at Piedmont Hospital-Atlanta. This pharmacy location offers clinical pharmacy services for patients who are prescribed in complex therapies such as HIV/AIDS, oncology, chronic inflammatory disease, and transplant. The clinical pharmacists at this site work closely with medical staff to provide optimal drug therapy for patients. The residency program graduates will be leaders in the future of pharmacy and will have an active role in advancing community pharmacy practice.

The resident will participate in the provision of patient-care services through the following:

-Develop skills needed in Walgreens health system pharmacy relationships and specialty pharmacy

-Working with disease states such as oncology, chronic inflammatory diseases, HCV, HIV, transplant, and others with Limited Distribution Drug therapies

-Transitions of care and disease state management programs in areas such as HIV/AIDS, oncology, pediatrics, transplant, Hepatitis C, and immunologic disorders

-Clinical management of specialty patients that includes; financial assistance, thorough disease-specific clinical counseling, and close communication with providers for optimal patient management

-Impact patient outcomes through participation in patient counseling, Medication Therapy Management, patient adherence, and immunization services.

-Collaborate with the hospital staff to assist in reducing expenses associated with readmissions

-In collaboration with health systems, help with transitions of care through bedside delivery of medications upon discharge.

-Develop skills to become an efficient clinical staff pharmacist, pharmacy manager and store manager.

-Comprehensive patient care services with a particular focus on Diabetes Self-Management Education; Good Samaritan Health Center-Atlanta and Village Medical in Stone Mountain

-Meet with regional leadership to learn about management initiatives and issues that can affect the implementation of patient care services in the community pharmacy setting.

The resident will participate in the following activities that strengthen practice management and educator skills:

-Develop and conduct a practice-based research project and present findings at regional and national professional meetings

-Design and execute collaborative practice, business plan, and quality improvement projects

-Instruct and precept APPE student pharmacists

-Complete a Teaching Certificate Program

-Complete rotations in ambulatory care

External Basic Qualifications:
