Home Depot Manager, Internal Controls in Atlanta, Georgia

Position Purpose:

This position is responsible for managing and improving the people and processes related to internal controls over financial reporting specific to the Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) Act as well as leading and managing enterprise-wide related projects. The core responsibilities are (i) performing enterprise-wide SOX activities (issue remediation, certification, audit management, SOX documentation, etc) and work cross-functionally to support a changing SOX landscape and drive process improvement; (ii) Key SOX Initiatives- leading Internal Controls efforts over strategic P2P (Merchandise Payables) core processes and initiatives; continuously assess internal processes for process improvement opportunities, including technology enablement; (iii) People Management - manage and develop an effective and proficient team members. Manage and oversee team member(s) supporting work being executed including support, feedback, development opportunities, coaching, etc. in real time and periodic reviews.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Analysis/Problem Solving - Works to fully understand business; identify and implement process and organizational improvements. Plans and ensures execution of department objectives. Participates in preparation of the annual budget, reviews monthly expenditures and ensures that budgetary goals are met. Reviews monthly metrics to ensure goals are met.

  • Conduct financial planning for function and make appropriate recommendations.

  • Leads, plans, and coordinates work teams in an efficient manner to effectively perform any financial function and activity; utilizes metrics to track performance and manage workload. Ensures operational processes and procedures are compliant and consist with established policies.

  • Drive key functional financial metrics.

  • Project Management- Develops and supports a strategic alliance with business partners. Participates in cross-functional activities focused on solving business issues and enhancing our competitive advantage. Facilitates cross-functional communication with other areas of the business including but not limited to Finance, Human Resources, Real Estate, Operations, and Information Systems.

Direct Manager/Direct Reports:

  • Typically reports to a Sr. Manager level

Travel Requirements:

  • Typically requires overnight travel 5% to 20% of the time.

Physical Requirements:

  • Most of the time is spent sitting in a comfortable position and there is frequent opportunity to move about. On rare occasions there may be a need to move or lift light articles.

Working Conditions:

  • Located in a comfortable indoor area. Any unpleasant conditions would be infrequent and not objectionable.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must be eighteen years of age or older.

  • Must be legally permitted to work in the United States.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • CPA, CIA, CISA, or other related certification preferred

  • Proven people management skills

  • Data analytics and reporting capabilities preferred (e.g., Tableau, SAP, GRC Tools such as Workiva)

  • Strong verbal and written communication acumen

Minimum Education:

  • The knowledge, skills and abilities typically acquired through the completion of a bachelor's degree program or equivalent degree in a field of study related to the job.

Preferred Education:

  • No additional education

Minimum Years of Work Experience:

  • 5

Competencies:

  • Knowledge of accounting principles and practices, analysis and reporting of financial data.

  • Knowledge of business and mgmt. Principles involved in strategic planning and resource allocation.

  • Project management skills; ability to prioritize and multi-task effectively.

  • Judgement and decision-making skills; considering relative costs, benefits of potential actions.
