Jacobs Field Geotechnical Engineer in Atlanta, Georgia

As our Field Geotechnical Engineer, you’ll have the opportunity to follow projects from concept through the construction phase working on current and upcoming design-bid-build and design-build projects in transportation, rail, water, and ports and maritime areas. By joining us, you’ll assist with and / or manage field explorations and construction observations for large and complex projects across North America.

This position entails the following:

Field assignments that will include field observation of explorations (soil and rock borings, test pits, CPT soundings, geophysical testing) and geotechnical instrumentation and monitoring; and inspection of earth retaining structures, deep foundations (drilled shafts, driven piles), and shallow foundations, and trenchless pipe installation.

Analyze laboratory testing results and review of exploration logs. Preparing and review of technical reports, data reports and geotechnical interpretative reports.

Use computer programs including gINT, Openground, Google Earth, and ArcGIS.

Collaborate on multi-disciplinary teams across North America and the world.

May require long durations of travel throughout the US depending on project needs (up to 75% of the time).

Possess an outgoing and positive attitude, are dependable and meet all assigned project deadlines.

Display strong communication and interpersonal skills and have the ability to work in a fast-paced team environment with multiple deadlines.

  • Bachelor of Science with an emphasis on Geotechnical Engineering or Engineering Geology

  • Previous academia and/or consulting experience with large design and construction projects as well as field soil classification, and the desire to grow personally as well as professionally with each geotechnical engineering project

  • Professional expertise with gINT, Openground, Google Earth, and ArcGIS

  • Able to participate in field assignments including subsurface investigation, instrumentation, monitoring, and construction

Ideally, You’ll Also Have:

  • Field investigation experience such as knowledge of various types of drilling, and laboratory test assignments

  • Master of Science degree with emphasis on Geotechnical Engineering or Engineering Geology
