Equipment Operator

Position Overview

Perform a variety of tasks involving equipment, operating and/or physical labor in heavy civil construction and demolition sites. Operates construction equipment such as excavator, bulldozer, dozer, motor grader, backhoe, roller compactor, skid steer. The Operator must be able to do daily mechanical checks to report any safety issue to the supervisor. The Equipment Operator keeps the equipment clean and grease daily the equipment, and in good working order. Equipment Operator supports the Superintendent and Project Manager; while maintaining a commitment to safety, keeping the worksite clean and orderly, and performing as a team player. The Equipment Operator receives from the Superintendent and or Project Manager (dependent on whom they are assigned) the direction to perform all tasks. The Equipment Operator is expected to perform a variety of tasks involving physical labor at construction job sites. Job duties are constantly changing depending on the requirements of each project. Must be able to demonstrate specific operator skills for the specific machinery the candidate is hired to work with.

  • Prepares equipment thoroughly by conducting operator inspections

  • Performs preventative maintenance checks to ensure equipment is clean and in good working order.

  • Studies and clarifies instructions and diagrams.

  • Performs calculations based on diagrams and gathers the necessary supplies to prepare for projects.

  • Observes fluctuating conditions and adjusts equipment controls as necessary for operation.

  • Complies with legal regulations and following standards and procedures to maintain a safe, secure, and healthy work environment.

  • When no operating equipment the operator is expected to perform pick and shovel on construction sites to loads, and unloads stone, gravel, dirt, timber, steel reinforcement, heavy mechanical equipment, or tools to the appropriate locations.

  • Must be able to do grading activities and pipe installation.

  • Preferred experience: Excavator, Bulldozer, Wheel Loader, Backhoe.

  • Experience operating Motor Grader, and CDL class B or higher is a plus.

  • While not operating company Equipment the employee is expected to perform a variety of tasks involving physical labor at construction job sites

  • Performs pick and shovel on construction sites, loads, and unloads stone, gravel, dirt, timber, steel reinforcement, heavy mechanical equipment, or tools to the appropriate locations.

  • Flags traffic, setting out barricades, cones, or other safety devices to help ensure the safety of the crew and the public.

  • Perform a variety of tasks involving strenuous manual labor in heavy civil construction projects.

  • Other duties as assigned

    General Tasks:

  • Maintain a clean job site to eliminate potential hazards.

  • Ensures that proper safety and incident reporting procedures are followed.

    Requirements

  • Occasional travel overnight - Travel may be required based on operational needs.

  • Valid Driver license and Clear MVR record if needed to drive.

This position is subject to outside environmental conditions to include extreme cold and hot temperatures according to the season. This is a heavy-duty position that requires long periods of standing, walking, climbing, stooping, and bending. Applicants must be capable to lift 70 pounds or more.
