Position Summary

In support of Morehouse School of Medicine’s Vision; “Leading the creation and advancement of health equity to achieve health justice,” the Center of Excellence on Climate and Environmental Health is seeking an Environmental Justice Coordinator to join their team!

The Environmental Justice Coordinator will be responsible for planning, implementing, and coordinating programs and strategies that promote and address environmental justice issues. The coordinator will work collaboratively with various stakeholders to develop initiatives aimed at mitigating environmental disparities and fostering sustainable practices.

Minimum Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in public health, environmental science, sustainability, public policy, or related field.

Experience:

  • Previous experience in environmental justice and/or community engagement.

  • Strong understanding of environmental policies and regulations.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse groups and communities.

    Preferred Qualifications

Education:

  • Master’s degree in public health, environmental science, sustainability, public policy, or related field.

Experience:

  • Familiarity with GIS mapping and data visualization tools.

  • Experience in project management and grant writing.

  • Knowledge of social justice principles and their intersection with environmental issues.

Environmental Justice Initiatives

  • Identify and assess environmental justice issues within the community or region.

  • Develop and implement programs that address the disproportionate impacts of environmental hazards on marginalized communities.

  • Collaborate with community organizations, advocacy groups, and government agencies to promote environmental justice.

Community Engagement:

  • Facilitate community meetings, workshops, and outreach events to raise awareness about environmental justice.

  • Build relationships with community members, leaders, and organizations to ensure inclusive participation in environmental initiatives.

Policy Advocacy:

  • Monitor and analyze environmental policies at the local, state, and federal levels.

  • Advocate for policies that promote environmental justice and sustainability.

  • Collaborate with policymakers and legislators to influence positive change.

Data Collection and Analysis:

  • Collect and analyze data related to environmental justice issues and impacts.

  • Prepare reports and presentations to communicate findings to stakeholders and the broader community.

It is MSM’s Immunization policy that all Prospective Employees are required to provide proof that they are vaccinated against COVID -19 prior to commencement of employment. If employment will commence during Flu Season, MSM requires all individuals to provide proof that they are vaccinated against Seasonal Influenza for the current Flu Season, unless granted an exemption. Failure to provide proof of vaccination for any required vaccines or obtain an exemption from MSM will result in rescission of a candidate’s offer of employment or disciplinary action up to and including termination.
