This Opportunity

WSP is currently initiating a search for a Construction Quality Assurance (CQA) Engineering Technician to join our Civil, Ground Engineering & Materials team in Atlanta, Georgia. The preferred home office locations is Atlanta or surrounding area.

The successful candidate will conduct CQA observation, monitoring, and testing services for civil construction projects and earthen and geosynthetic containment systems at energy, industrial, municipal, and mining sites. Additional duties and responsibilities may include supporting environmental or geotechnical investigations, environmental sampling including groundwater, surface water and soils, and other field-related activities.

Your Impact

  • Field monitoring, testing, and sampling of soil and aggregate materials

  • Use of a nuclear gauge for soil density testing

  • Geosynthetics monitoring and testing

  • General construction observation and documentation

  • Interpreting construction documents (construction drawings, technical specifications, and CQA Plans) to confirm projects are completed in accordance with approved plans

  • Interaction with contractors and owners in a positive and constructive manner to resolve construction issues

  • Generating complete, accurate, and concise documentation using electronic systems and field/work site notebook

  • Assisting with other field activities as needed including but not limited to conducting field characterization (drilling), stormwater sampling, and groundwater sampling

  • Participating and contributing to daily safety meetings

  • Legal and safe vehicle operations on behalf of the company

  • Maintaining quality control standards and procedures for accurate and precise measurement and documentation

  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)

  • 3+ years of related experience

  • Geosynthetics Certification Institute-Inspector Certification Program (GCI-ICP) certification for compacted soil liner and geosynthetics or the ability to obtain certification, or NICET Construction Materials Testing Soils certification

  • The ability to perform duties within established deadlines while maintaining a high level of accuracy

  • Travel, including travel for extended assignments is required

  • Daily report writing and construction documentation is required

  • The ability to communicate constructively with contractors, owners and Project Managers is essential

  • Ability to meet tight deadlines and work under pressure

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals, compute rate, ratio, percent, and draw and interpret bar graphs

  • Analytical mindset to exercise sound judgement in evaluating situations and making decisions

  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies

  • This role is subject to a client-mandated drug/alcohol testing policy. As such, employee may be subject to random drug/alcohol tests. A copy of this policy will be provided during employee onboarding and is available upon applicant request.

  • Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek

  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team, self-motivation, and strong work ethic

  • Ability to regularly lift and/or move up to 49 pounds unaided and 50-100 pounds with assistance and/or proper engineering controls

  • Ability to speak and hear, stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and walk up/down slopes

  • Basic proficiency with business writing, office automation and communication software, technology, and tools

  • Proficient self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment

  • Must be able to work up to 12-hours outdoors in hot or cold environments safely.

  • Travel Required: 100%

  • Valid U.S drivers license and satisfactory driving record.

Preferred Requirements

  • Associates or four-year degree

  • An understanding of civil and geotechnical engineering design and background in earthworks construction including the ability to read and understand technical civil design drawings and technical specifications.

  • First Air/CPR.

  • OSHA 10 hour training and certificate.

  • Experience with geotechnical lab testing
