Ohio University Fire Safety Coordinator in Athens, Ohio

Job Description:

The Fire Safety Coordinator position exists to promote campus fire safety, ensure compliance with fire codes, and eliminate/reduce associated hazards. They provide training, technical expertise, and administrative support to the campus community. They serve as the primary point of contact for the Authorities Having Jurisdiction ( AHJ ).

  • Provide technical support and guidance to the Life Safety Shop in the repair and maintenance of campus.

  • Provide end-to-end management of fire safety service contracts, including fire alarm monitoring, fire alarm testing, sprinkler inspections, and kitchen hood cleaning. fire safety equipment.

  • Coordinate and/or oversee campus fire safety programs including fire safety training, fire drills, fire extinguisher inspections, hot work permits, and fire watch, when necessary.

  • Compile an inventory of all fire safety systems and assets and develop priorities for renewal/replacement.

  • Maintain campus design standards. Assist in the planning and delivery of fire safety improvement projects and ensure strict adherence to contract plans and specifications.

  • Record, investigate, and follow up on fire alarm activations, including analysis of causes, actions taken, and lessons learned.

  • Complete Fire Risk Assessments, issue remedial instructions and ensure that the appropriate actions have been taken to ensure compliance.

  • Position may supervise five to ten student workers assigned to campus safety, emergency management, and/or fire protection.

  • This position involves traveling throughout the University and campus and could, on occasion, require bending, reaching, kneeling, crouching, crawling, standing walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, talking, and hearing. Must be able to spend prolonged periods of time working on an office PC; must be able to work under deadlines. Required to observe conditions of facilities. May be subject to drug screening and background checks at any time during employment, able to occasionally drive a university vehicle, work evenings and weekends as needed, and meet attendance standards.

  • Facilities Management & Safety is a 24-hour operation for 365 days each year. Position may be asked to answer and respond to various calls around the clock. Some University events such as move-in, homecoming, commencement, and planned service outages may require all-hands.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associate’s Degree, or vocational or technical school degree in the Fire Safety Field.

  • A minimum of 6 years of work-related experience

  • A minimum of 3 years of supervisory or managerial experience

  • Must have comprehensive knowledge and understanding of plans and specifications, contract documents, federal, state, and local building codes, as well as NFPA standards.

  • Fire Safety Inspector certification is required or must be obtained within one year.

Must possess a valid Ohio Driver’s License and be able to obtain and maintain Ohio University’s Certified Driver status.

Advertised Salary:

The full salary range for this position is $44,592 – $74,196. The target salary range for this position is $44,592 – $59,085. Salary is commensurate with education and experience, while also considering internal equity.
