Position Overview

As a Superintendent you will play a significant part in the success for Kiewit. You will function as a field supervisor and may have responsibility for multiple Foreman, and crews. You with be responsible for the organization, work methods, scheduling, cost control, conformity with drawings and specification, workmanship, and assignment of work to accomplish the execution of the work, either directly or through General Foreman or Foreman. You will also work to maintain positive working relationships with clients, architect/engineer, suppliers, subcontractors, and jobsite staff.

The Underground District has been constructing underground facilities for over 70 years and is recognized as a leader in the tunneling industry. We have completed more than 100 underground-related projects totaling more than several billion dollars. Our work includes projects related to transportation, water/wastewater, environmental facilities, power, mining, and telecommunications. Please keep in mind that we are an Underground Construction business, so chances are that the majority of your day will be spent working Underground. Services include TBM Rock, TBM Soft Ground, Sequential Excavation, Drill and Blast, Shaft Excavation, Concrete, Tunnel Rehab, and Numerous Trenchless Methods.

In this role, our expectation is to be based on our ongoing, Design-Build, Champlain Hudson Power Express project. With relocation available for qualified candidates, not only to this project, but future projects upon completion.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee team in heavy civil construction operations of Underground projects. Manage performance, lead, and develop team to meet Kiewit Quality and Safety standards.

  • May supervise the operations on a shutdown/night shift schedule.

  • Develop and maintain open communication with crews, field engineers/coordinators, Safety, Quality, and clients.

  • Assist in preparing work plans and scheduling to determine manpower levels, material quantities, and equipment requirements.

  • Examine/inspect field conditions, troubleshoot problems, correct inaccuracies, and implement cost saving measures.

  • Monitor and manage cost vs budget.

  • Monitor job safety and provide job safety training and awareness for all personnel.

  • Monitor quality standards and ensure that technical specifications are being met. Ensure inspections are scheduled appropriately.

  • Assist with developing job schedules, 90 day schedules, and three week schedules. Monitor job schedule and coordinate work with contractors and suppliers.

  • Advise senior level superintendents and/or project management of potential problems, safety issues, schedule difficulties, etc. Assist in resolving such problems as required.

Qualifications

  • Must have 10+ years of experience in heavy civil construction supervision/superintendent type of role, leading crews & working to defined contract plans, specifications, applicable codes and jurisdictional requirements

  • Experience in construction of Conventional Tunnels, TBM, Micro Tunnels, HDD, or Trenchless methods

  • Understanding of cost management processes, planning, scheduling and logistics to execute a project

  • Highly motivated, with a demonstrated passion for excellence and taking initiative; a passion for safety, with the ability to ensure that nobody gets hurt

  • Demonstrated commitment to ethics and integrity and strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills

  • The physical ability to freely access all points of a construction site in wide-ranging climates and environmental conditions and move objects up to 30 pounds

  • Ability and desire to travel and relocate as business requires around North America and work varied shifts, which could include evenings and weekends

  • Willing to execute work performed underground

Base Compensation: $100,000 - $140,000

(Actual compensation is subject to variation due to such factors as education, experience, skillset, and/or location)
