About This Role

The Plant Controller will report directly to the Kidde Fenwal Global Controller and collaborate with the full spectrum of Kidde Fire and Fenwal Controls functional leaders. The Plant Controller is responsible for planning and coordinating plant budget and business planning activities in alignment with corporate policies and practices. The Plant Controller will provide strategic financial direction to leadership, while overseeing the day-to-day financial performance of the plant.

Key Responsibilities:

Plant Financial Operations:

  • Owns the production and management of the US Plant level P&L and ensures strong adherence to generally accepted cost accounting standards (GAAP CAS)

  • Responsible for preparation and management of US Plant level budgets and forecasts

  • Leads the analysis of plant level cost and revenue variances versus standard, forecast, and budget.

  • Provides financial explanations and advice to KFI executive and operations leadership on plant performance.

  • Manages plant fixed asset register and depreciation schedules.

Inventory and Cost Management:

  • Sets, implements, and monitors plant inventory and cost controls.

  • Sets physical inventory count process and owns resolution of inventory variances.

  • Responsible for managing and optimizing plant inventory levels in partnership with plant and operations leadership.

  • Reviews and sets production cost standards and leads the analysis of cost variances to standard.

  • Identifies and recommends and leads plant cost improvement initiatives in partnership with plant and operations leadership.

  • Conducts reviews and monitors trends for work order variances, with timely implementation of corrective actions.

Risk and Compliance:

  • Partners with KFI Global Corporate Controller to set plant accounting policies and ensure compliance to plant accounting policies and delegation of authority.

  • Facilitates and supports external and internal audits.

  • Sets plant financial risk framework and conducts plant financial risk assessments.

  • Sets plant level controls procedures, and conducts testing of controls effectiveness against risk framework.

  • Ensures appropriate adherence to capital spending requisition, approval, and project tracking.

Leadership:

  • Partners with Plant, Operations, Supply Chain, IT, HR, and Finance leadership to drive improvements in plant performance.

  • Leads, develops, and mentors Plant Controllership and Cost Accounting staff.

  • Serves as a strong communicator and ambassador of KFI Plant performance with KFI investors and creditors where appropriate.

  • Demonstrates strong presence and partnership with cross functional KFI functional and executive leadership teams.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or Economics

  • 3+ years’ experience in a finance or accounting mid-level leadership role in a manufacturing setting

  • 5+ years of progressive accounting and cost management experience, with increasing responsibilities

Preferred Qualifications:

  • CPA, CMA, or equivalent accounting designation

  • Demonstrated cost accounting experience in a manufacturing setting

  • Working knowledge of JD Edwards ERP and ReportsNow systems

  • Knowledge of risk and controls leading practices and procedures

  • Superior communication, analysis, and problem-solving skills

  • Proven ability to build strong and productive relationships between accounting and operations teams which create value

  • Proficient knowledge of current US GAAP standards
