About our opportunity:

The City of Asheville is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Business Services Specialist III in the Capital Projects Department. This department oversees the management of financial resources and contracts related to city capital projects.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Processing documentation pertaining to budget or general financial management, including data entry, budget preparation, revenue forecasting, and expenditure monitoring.

  • Handling accounts payable documentation by reviewing, verifying, and processing invoices, purchase orders, refunds, and reimbursements.

  • Managing purchasing documentation, ensuring accuracy, budget availability, and proper authorization.

  • Preparing and maintaining departmental contracts, including creation, maintenance, compliance documentation, and routing for signatures.

  • Processing various departmental documentation within designated timeframes and procedures, including data entry, record-keeping, and report preparation.

  • Providing administrative support to the department, including answering inquiries, participating in meetings, and serving as a backup HR Liaison.

  • Communicating with internal and external stakeholders to coordinate work activities, exchange information, or resolve problems.

  • Operate a personal computer and office equipment to complete essential functions.

Minimum Qualifications:

We know your time is valuable. Applicants who meet the following minimum requirements or have comparable experience and/or education will be considered:

  • Prior experience in business service administration.

  • Ability to handle small contracts and warranties.

  • Proficiency in budget management and data entry.

  • Knowledge of bidding processes and procurement.

  • Strong organizational and administrative skills.

  • Familiarity with purchasing, supplies, and equipment procurement processes.

  • Ability to work effectively as a middle person between business management and administrative roles.

  • Prior experience in financial tasks and coordination with external parties.

  • Work Schedule: Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, 37.5 hours/week.

  • Salary Range: $23.29 - $25.61/hour.
